That makes at least 2 of us.

But I'll add that it was lost because our defense was not great (or even decent in the first half).

USU had one team on their mind for the last 4 weeks, and it wasn't SDSU.

Add to those reasons--injuries and just not having as much talent as USU.

If you had used the word "experience" instead of "talent" I would be 100% in agreement with you. BYU has a bunch of talent, it is all freshman and they are not making plays yet. Give them more experience and they will make the plays.

In fairness, the defense has lost every single talented player to injury. I don't think Logan is 100% still.



The offense would get rhythm if the WRs would catch the damn ball.

Ok, I'd be more accurate to say that USU had better players at this stage and were the better team. BYU might have more potential, but potential doesn't win the game. Players go out and win the game.

Injuries was a factor, dropped passes, missed tackles, subpar playcalling in the first half were all factors. But don't be mistaken, we have more talent by far. You can't underestimate SCHEME. No one can make a valid argument that USU has better talent than we do...unfortunately our players aren't being put in a position to make the plays...aside from our receivers with concrete hands.

This is still a symptom of coach Anae pushing and Bronco accepting the worst football decision at BYU since before Gary Crowton. Worse than "I'd rather win by 9".

What games are you watching? Speight or JJ? Any of their receivers against any of ours? Their O-line and our O-line. They have a TE and we don't. Their DB's blanketed our WR patsies all night, while ours play a soft cover and still allow players to get behind them regularly.



Clearly their skill position players are faster and better athletes. This means they have more talent.

Yep. Who continuously calls for 2yard outs? And doesn't call a single deep ball until a flea flicker that fools absolutely nobody? And runs the smallest back you got on short yardage? The drops, and the poor D were critical to the loss but the playcalling was sidkening. I knew most plays. I turned to my daughter several times and said, they are going to run a 2 yard out and sure enough every time I said that's what they ran. Maybe it was my fault. Maybe I should have said, look they are going to run a deep seam route, or a wheel play, or a deep post. Just sickening.

Without that decision that you deplore and why I am sure glad you aren't making the decisions you would have one of the following scenarios with the same or even worse out come:



Nelson named starter - lasts till mid-way thru FSU game before suffering a season ending injury. Heaps takes over having had minimal practice snaps and zero game snaps and BYU loses 6-9 more games after Heaps takes over.



Heaps named starter. We lose to UW, AFA, and FSU and Heaps is carried off the field on a stretcher due to lack of protection. Nelson tries to go but reinjured shoulder injury suffered in Fall Camp. We find out what totally inexperienced Lark and Munns have.

Jake's arm was impressive tonight - passes were powerful and accurate. somewhere between 8-10 passes were dropped. What did some people expect from a true freshman with a crappy cast of receivers? I used to think that this board was where the "cream of the crop" resided in terms of football comprehension, but comments like "Heaps has obviously proven he doesn't deserve to start" leave me wondering....



(btw, imauka, I realize that your post was not criticizing Heaps in any way, in fact, I agreed so much with what you said that it spawned these thoughts on Heaps and those who are blaming him instead of playcalling/receivers)
