A bit of perspective.

Did we really think Bronco was going to lead BYU to a 10+ win season every year? We as fans have been kinda of spoiled lately and some of us, including myself, have taken for granted how good we have been in the past.

Some stats.

LaVell Edwards coached for 29 season and finished with 257 wins. That's an average of about 8.8 wins per season. He had some great years and he had some that weren't. BYU consistently had winning seasons during his tenure, in fact he only ever had one losing season, and 2 where he finished .500.

Joe Paterno has averaged about 9 wins per season, but has had some really bad seasons too. 4 out of the 5 seasons from 2000-2004 were losing seasons.

Bobby Bowden avergaed about 9 1/2 wins per season. (If you still count the ones the NCAA took away)

My point is that even the best coaches and the best programs are going to have down years. This is obviously one for BYU. Bronco has a long way to go to be put in the category of any of the above mentioned coaches, but he has had a pretty good start.

But, but, buuuuuuuuttt, we are BYU, we are better than everyone else. Especially with Capt America...errr Moroni....err Bronco leading us to victory. ;)



Aside from my joking, what is frustrating so far is that BYU did not reload quite as expected. The Oline didn't produce like a veteran unit should, nor have the receivers come out of their fall camp funk. Further, the DBs have been good, but we expected the Dline to be a bit stronger given they all have experience and the LBs would fly around with all the talent at their disposal. Couple that with stronger than expected AFA and UNR teams along with an unwelcomed QB controvery and here we are, going into our second month of play will looking for answers and worried that what should have been a live scrimmage is going to be a dog fight.



The drop off has been steep in relation to our spoilage from the past four seasons.



But into everyone's life the rain must fall. Let's just hope this doesn't portend a deluge this season. :(

I think we all expected a drop. WE expcted one from 2006 to 2007 as well, but it never happened, so that gave major cause for optimism this year. that turned out to be a bad idea. I guarantee the coaches did not expect to be 1-3 and look this toothless on offense, so I think even they are shocked by the start. Of course, a strong finish cures many problems and gives cause to be overly optimistic next year.
