Slushies in the face, toilet swirlies and being hung by your underpants from the flag pole are the elementary school versions of the situations you may find yourself in if you tend to flaunt any BYU pride. Avoid it. Burn that BYU t-shirt. If you don't, then you can't complain about what may or may not happen to you..."





P.S. This is exactly the type of student article that caused the Boise School Pres to flip out over Idaho and decide to never schedule them again.

We get the same kind of garbage articles in the UVU student paper, except that UVU is not even good enough to compete with BYU in any sport (besides lacrosse, of course). They rag on kids that wear BYU gear, but ignore the fact that students wear Texas, Cal, USC, Florida, etc. gear as well. It's just the little brother throwing a fit because he feels like he should get the same kudos for using the potty as his older brother does for graduating college.

I went to UVU, and would I would wear blue over green any day of the week. Not only do my loyalties lie with the BYU sports program, but it is a better color. Just is. Hey I'm not the one that decided the school colors should be green and yellow.

I was just about to post this same thing. It's a joke. BYU gets singled out while they don't seem to care that kids wear other clothing from other schools.



I wrote 2 letters to the UVU newspaper regarding this. The first one all I wrote was how I thought it was funny how UVU singles out BYU and gets upset when people wear BYU gear even though many different schools are represented. It didn't get published.



Then I wrote a less obvious criticism this way: "The other day I was walking through the hall of flags and I noticed somebody wearing a Lake Powell t-shirt. This disgusted me. We are nowhere near Lake Powell! How dare he! Everyone at UVU should be forced to wear Utah Lake shirts because that is obviously "our" lake here at UVU. UVU students I plead with you to stop wearing clothing from landmarks that aren't somehow UVU related. Instead of wearing a Mount Rushmore shirt, wear a Mount Timpanogos shirt. Instead of that Hoover Dam hat, show your UVU pride by wearing a Deer Creek Dam hat. I think UVU will be a better place when we all pull together in landmark unity."



It didn't get published...

But then again, I found this little nugget below the article and thank goodness I went to BYU because I know this would never be in the Daily Universe.

I feel sorry for the guy who wrote that. He struggles to grasp simple social concepts. The appeal of what is appalling to him is quite obvious to the rest of humanity.



I hope his lack of understanding doesn't completely handicap his ability to integrate into society.

UVU's student paper is such a huge joke, I don't even bother to pick it up anymore (I play games on my phone when I'm in the bathroom instead :lol: ). I can only imagine how bad USU's paper is since I find their student body to be about 10x more repulsive than UVU's.

UVU is trying so hard to not be BYU it's a joke. They're advertising slogan is practically "We're cool because we aren't BYU".



I like UVU a lot but I am flat out embarrassed by the little sister syndrome that is rampant on campus. It is probably even worse at Utah State because they actually play BYU in the major sports. When you haven't beat BYU in football since 93 the little sister syndrome runs through a school like the plague.

This article describes my daughter. She is a sophomore at USU proudly wears her cougar blue. She will be at the game Friday but will head over and sit with the Cougar fans. She is teased constantly for it but handles it well.



I hope the article is TIC but if not I would love to visit with the punk who wrote that garbage. I suspect he would sing a different tune after.

Article was amusing, but not worth getting worked up about. Same with the Idaho BSU debacle. Ridiculous that a school president threw such a tantrum over such a article, although,we all know why BSU went with that decision and it is because that rivalry does not benefit BSU in the least.

I think that the problem was that there was actually a lot going on with the Idaho BSU thing, it wasn't just words.

And what was going on that doesn't happen in other rivalries?



I'm of the opinion that BSU/UI was extremely mild compared to most rivalries.

I get invited to guest lecture at UVU some times. I have a BS and an MBA from BYU and have been back in UT for about 2 years. When I get introduced, I always get a vibe from some students that I read as "why are you here, we have better alumni?"
