Schollie Pulled?

Rumorboard is saying that the schollie offer to Harvey Langi has been pulled.. I havent seen anything about that anywhere else... have anyone else heard this? sorry if I missed a thread about this already..

I've been wondering what's going on with Harvey. Who knows? But - looking at how things are going this year - more bad news seems "par for the course." Would love to land Harvey!

I haven't heard anything other than the rumors regarding the schollie being pulled.



However, I have heard some disappointing things about Harvey and I think BYU will not be the best place for him. Even if he committed, he still might not make it.

If the rumors are true I think you are correct.

Well, the rumors have been floating for a while. If they are true, not sure it matters if BYU pulls the schollie or not--he probably would not choose BYU anyway.

Too bad. More top notch talent going somewhere else. Sad Panda here.

I think the problem is that for byu top notch Talent is not enough, there must also be top notch character. If Harvey is a match for BYU then he will take it upon himself to assure the coaches that the rumors are false and he will distance himself from the circumstances. Or he may just decide it is easier to go somewhere else.

We were never going to get him anyway. A kid who waits this long to make a decision is never going to choose BYU. He is probably waiting to see what other schools will offer him in the way of gifts or women. Maybe he will go somewhere where he can have more "missionary opportunities."

When I was at byu I spoke to the missionaries assigned there and they told me it was the highest baptizing mission in the world ... Or the US or something like that. And they wear yellow name tags.

Yep, that's basically true. Lots of those baptisms, sadly, are 9-12 year olds who weren't taken to church by their parents and end up getting taught in the home of grandparents or uncle/aunt. :~(

That would have been torture to be a missionary at BYU. It would be like being very thirsty, but not allowed to take a drink. I guess that's why I was sent elsewhere.

I had a friend that went to that mission and if it is the highest (which I've never heard subtatiated by any source) his explanation was that he spent his whole misssion baptising the young children of parents who had become inactive

Don't listen to cougarboard; rumors get started there on a daily basis without a single shred of evidence. In this case it's easy to say that. He hasn't committed to anyone, he's done things that might preclude him from going to BYU, and he's made little effort to show that he's interested. Easy to speculate.



We don't need a running back that runs like a wide receiver; he's really overhyped, not built like a running back and would not crack our starting 3 next year (then throw in Hine/Philips/Moore to the mix). I was told by a few athletes that attended all poly camp and the nike camp that Langi just doesn't feel like a running back.



We don't need a running back period; however we do need athletes and Harvey is one of those.



We need Dlinemen, particularly ones that can jump into the 2 deep next year (i.e. juco) and we need athletes; 2 star guys like Cody Hoffman, Thomas Bryson, etc. with size and speed that will play where the coaches decide that their strengths suit them and contribute in the long term future at those positions (this is where Utah has doen well with bringing in converted prep qbs). I'd also take one studly juco linebacker to increase our depth at that position and one long term project on the Oline.

I heard the rumor that it was pulled last summer when Bronco was running out of scholarships.

Jay Drew just tweeted a conversation he had with Langi's high school coach.



Sounds like Langi is thinking of out of state AND that BYU has not pulled his offer. USC is persuing him hard these past couple weeks. Stanford is out of the question, because his grades aren't up to par with Stanford.
