Not that we care anymore - but CBS Sportsline is reporting a RUMOR that the Big East is interested in such a move to keep themselves relevant.

TCU head coach responded with surprise but AD has not responded to the rumor.

Just a Rumor - but you have to wonder if BSU, Nevada, and Fresno State might start to wonder if their big move was really worth it in the end.

This was rumored when we went indy. Makes no sense to me as they are selecting a good football and baseball school, but one that doesn't sufficiently have a following and can't even sell out their stadium in good years. Funny too to put a team from west Texas in a league that's supposed to be the east. I guess they were the eastern part of the MWC. ; )

The Big East's biggest concern is winning football games at this point and keeping their BCS AQ status.

Ft. Worth isn't too far from Louisville, Cincinnati, or Tampa, especially when, as you brought up, you consider San Diego, Las Vegas, and, in the future, Boise, Fresno, and Reno.

I wonder if they do go if Garry Patterson asks the other MWC schools not to schedule them in the future...

Big East needs to do something, because it's getting absolutely ridiculous over there. We've beaten as many BCS schools as their entire conference!

Had to comment on this, may have just been a misinterpretation, but TCU is definitely not in West Texas. Dallas/FW's on the East side of the state and like Y12 said, it isn't all that far compared to what some conferences do, especially the Mtn West.

Personally, I hope it is true. I'd love to see TCU go Big East and leave the MWC behind. Also puts BYU in a better position to go Big 12 should they decide to add 2 teams because TCU would clearly be out of that equation(they are anyway).

That's the problem with acting all self-righteous when BYU leaves the MWC. Now they look like complete jack a's for doing the same thing. But at least they are used to that kind of a thing.

I hope they go too - I'd love to see the MWC devoid of quality football especially after all the crap they pulled.

There will be no problem with any AQ conference losing their status. Once they get into conference play their numbers will go up and poof! they are the sixth best conference-just like last year. And with them in the BCS keeps a majority 66 BCS schools vs 54 non BCS Schools. 66-8 = 58 < 54 +8 = 62. It's in the numbers and the Big Least will ALWAYS keep their status and the MWC will NEVER get AQ status (especially not now). That is why last year we were ahead of them during the begining and by seasons end we were a distant 7th. It is rigged and there is nothing you or I can do about it. What should be a wash (conference games) ends up creating seperation from us.

You never say never, but I think it will be a cold day in hell when any of the current AQ conferences selects a team that won't play on Sunday. This has been debated ad nauseum, but I've NEVER seen anything to convince me otherwise. If Utah and now TCU have been taken over BYU to AQ conferences, that is just further proof to me. I think we are just setting ourselves up to think otherwise. I'd love to be proven wrong on this issue.

You're right. I had to go look on a map. I was thinking that Ft. Worth was just a tad bit to the west of mid-Texas, but it is actually a tad bit east of mid-Texas. I was just to Lubbock a few months ago and I flew first into DFW, so for some reason I thought I was further west in Texas when I was in the Dallas area. I stand corrected.

It is true that Sunday play, and religious bigotry, will keep BYU out of a BCS conference. Anyone who disagrees with this is just taking up space on the forum. But I will say that by going independent BYU has put itself in the only viable position to be invited to a BCS conference, and that is for the the football team to go by itself. I believe the remaining sports will be in the WCC forever (or at least a very, very long time). But the landscape of college football is changing so fast that it is very conceivable for a BCS conference to invite only the BYU football team. Football-only conferences will be the wave of the future. And BYU is set to take advantage. And the great thing about Sunday play is that the chances of football being played on Sunday is next to 0. With the NFL owning Sunday's it is very unlikely the college football will ever be played on Sunday.

I think the Big East has to be looking at TCU, Houston, UCF, East Carolina, and Memphis for football.

One issue for the Big East is how do the non-football Big East members look at expansion--everyone knows that basketball is merely the tail of the dog (other sports are no more than a toe nail). But to the non-football members (except Notre Dame), basketball is a huge issue. The Big East already has 16 teams in basketball, so any football expansion would probably make the non-football members consider forming their own conference as has been long rumored. That conference would be the "East Coast Conference" looking not unlike the WCC.

DePaul

Georgetown

Marquette

Notre Dame

Providence

St. John's

Seton Hall

Villanova

Add a few A10 teams like Xavier, Dayton, Richmond, and St. Joe's (and Temple and UMass if they'll consider public schools) and that's an excellent basketball conference.

I couldn't agree with you more. The Big 12 I feel confident would have accepted just ND FB to their conference even if they wanted to keep the rest of their sports in the Big East. That being said, it could be feasible that the Big 12 would offer just BYU FB. I'm okay with that, but I'd like to see them offer BB a home too as I don't see the Sunday rule being an issue there either. Maybe with our other sports more secure and it's not an issue that they would need to move that the Big 12 would consider that. What would be their down side if they were going to add that 12th team for it not to be BYU if we're only talking FB and possibly BB?

I would prefer to see all sports other than Football and perhaps Basketball stay in the WCC. Largely better competition in the WCC and MPSA (or whatever it's called) and a way better footprint for BYU Alumn (California! Oregon and Washington versus Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri....)

It sure would be funny to see TCU bolt and have Patterson basically eat his words about BYU.

"TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte has been unavailable for comment since Tuesday afternoon when a story in the New York Post cited unnamed Big East sources as eying TCU as a future member school. Del Conte... is in New York meeting with Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson...

"During this period of an ever-changing landscape in collegiate athletics, there has been speculation on future conference affiliation for TCU... As part of serving our student-athletes and coaches, we can assure everyone that our No. 1 priority is to always protect TCU's best interests."

The exact nature of Del Conte's meeting with Thompson and why it's in New York is unknown."

"TCU and Big East officials HAVE discussed the Horned Frogs joining the conference, according to several sources close to the situation. TCU has met with Big East officials within the past 30 days to discus the logistics of a move by TCU in either the 2011 or 2012 seasons, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

TCU Athletic director Chris Del Conte... was in Philadelphia for meetings about Mountain West Conference television contracts with MWC commissioner Craig Thompson....

One source said Villanova, which was invited to join the Big East in football several weeks ago but has yet to decide if it’s interested, is potentially a modifying factor regarding TCU joining the conference. It’s unclear whether a move by Villanova, which currently plays in the Football Championship Subdivision, to the Football Bowl Subdivision (previously known as Division I) Big East, would enhance or detract from TCU’s possible inclusion...

“We are in a situation that requires us to evaluate and analyze all our options including expansion and television,” one source told the Post. “There are a dozen or so schools that we’re looking at.”

Another source told the Star-Telegram that Del Conte is constantly in talks with representatives from different conferences and is constantly evaluating TCU’s best option moving forward."
