It's Official. Our Offense Sucks.

Worst in 35 years. Pathetic given that I have watched BYU for 22 years now and suffered through the Crowton years and we are just plain awful.



This is why we lose the next three games. We have no ability to put points on the board, and one week of practice isn't going to change that. The loss to TCU will be embarrassing but not as pathetic as losing to USU will be this year.



This team has no chemistry, no heart. They are just flat and the coaches are to blame for their inability to make decisions that most other coaches seem to be able to make. They put this team in a position to fail and did it incredibly well.



The writing is on the wall, and it says we suck. We will not have a winning record this year and our bowling streak comes to an end. Sad really.

Geez, I'm a Utah fan and even I'm not that down on BYU :lol:

USU and SDSU are a good remedy for a struggling offense.

in related news: The economy is struggling, Lindsay Lohan has drug and drinking issues, and Harline is still open.

There' might not be scoreboard points showing for it, but last week, I saw offensive improvement. Jake's learning and maturing in every game he plays. He's adapting to the offense around him, and I think the receivers are beginning to get accustomed to his throws. Part of the reason for stalled drives on Saturday were the times Jake overthrew his receiver, it happened more than a few times. As his timing improves, and as he and the receivers become more accustomed to the way each other play, and as Jake becomes more comfortable in the pocket, he will make more of those throws. The sky is not falling, and the offense will have a breakout game soon.

Who cares? Nobody can see the games anyway! It's called a rebuilding year, so try to separate the team's performance from your ego and you'll find yourself not sitting around screaming everytime you hear something move.

Wow. I just said our team sucks and stats and performance on the field shows it, and you go after me. Okay.



I don't have an ego. I am 42 years old with 5 kids. If anything destroys an ego, that is it. :evil:



We are terrible, and I see us losing the next three games. Everyone talks about improvement, but UNR's defense is not good and we looked awful against them. So far no one has given a valid reason on why that is going to change. We scored 13 points, at home against a terrible D. Friday night won't be much better.

Our offense doesn't suck. Let me give you an analogy. It's not like we have a little V-4 engine that is firing on all cylinders. We have a brand new V-8 engine that we have just installed that will be awesome, as soon as we get spark plugs firing in the right order.



USU will be a test, and by no means a sure win, but we can certainly beat them. You have to believe our guys are really hungry, and USU is not some top 25 team like UNR was.



This team is young, not sucky, and there is a big difference between lack of experience and timing and lack of talent. I am excited to watch the progression of our young players this season, even though I realize we may not win all the games we would like to. If we are bowl eligible by the end of the season, I will consider this season a success, as long as our young players are firing on all cylinders.

It's funny to me that as soon as someone points out the obvious, the sky is falling. I never said that. I think the future is bright, but right now our offense is the worst it's been in 35 years. I agree with your assessment, except for the breakout game soon. We will continue to improve, but will it be enough to even salvage this season? I say no. We have a massive way to go before this offense can be good enough to win a game.

Semantics. I agree we have a ton of talent, but right now our offense is awful. I am not talking about lack of individual ability, I am talking about our offense's ability to put points on the board. The last time we were this bad was in 1975. Our offense sucks. Our cylinders aren't firing together, we have no compression in our engine, we are leaking oil, our water pump is failing. All are fixable but won't be fixed in a week.



It will get better but anyone who thinks it isn't terrible right now is fooling themselves.



Yes, I am blowing off steam, and am disgusted with what I have seen on the field. I hope I am wrong about the next three weeks, but after watching every game for the past 22 years, this is a bad as I have seen our offense. Both what I see on the field and the stats back it up.

I don't think its semantics at all. You haven't said it, but others have said we simply lack talent, which I do not believe. We don't have to fix all those problems to beat Utah State, New Mexico, UNLV, CSU, Wyoming, or SDSU at home. With a little progression at a time we can win these games.



I certainly agree that the current state of the offense (what with the deep throws with nothing to show for it) looks very Crowtonesque. However, I also saw flashes of offense that got me excited back in 2005 that our chain moving offense was back. So, I think we agree, but I feel that we can still be bowl eligible this year and really good next year.

I don't know who's right or wrong here, I'm just glad that BYU didn't schedule any Football Championship Subdivision teams this year. There's no doubt about it, losing to an FCS team would really suck.

When you look at our losses they are all to good teams with high powered offenses. These teams have been able to sustain long drives keeping our offense on the sideline. It makes lots of sense the offensive stats are so poor right now, we haven't been playing BYU football. Our team spent all of fall camp learning the option.



2 factors will play out in the next few weeks that will lead to us putting more points on the board.



1) The defense will force more 3 and outs against weaker offenses

2) Heaps will continue to get the reps in practice and games and iron out some of the wrinkles that kept us out of the endzone the last week (which happened to be his first ever start)



I was at the game and i saw a pretty effective offense that was a few throws and a few caught balls away from putting up some decent points on the board even though they were sidelined a lot due to 9 minute long drives by the Nevada offense. I was very encouraged by our offense last Saturday, as it finally started looking like a BYU offense.

I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, and while I am disappointed with a 1-3 start, I do think is interesting to note that the 3 teams we have lost to are a combined 10-2 to start the season, with the only 2 losses coming to a top 10 ranked Oklahoma team. We have played some pretty good competition to open the season, and it shows in our record. I wish we had the yewts schedule this year to open up and get some experience, but we didn't. Hopefully, we will be better for it in the long run. I am looking forward to a great game on Friday. Go Cougars!!

What I do believe is that our offense is a disaster right now and I don't how the problems the offense has will be fixed soon enough to win either of the next two. We have no chance against TCU, so I see three losses in a row.

I can see us beating USU. But I agree with you that I don't have any faith at all that we can beat TCU. Maybe the players will have the "nobody believed in us" thing going for them and trounce TCU, but I wouldn't bet on it.

k... northerncoug may be a bit more down than most of you... but just outta curiosity... do you all eat crow if he ends up being correct? I don't think BYU loses their next three games, but it's certainly within the realm of possibility if we don't start scoring more than 14 points a game.
