Quezada

I don't know about anyone else, but I was super impressed with Juice. He ran hard and had great fluid movement, but brought a lot of power. I expect great things from him. I think he and Deliugi should get a bulk of the carries. Karyia needs to be a blocking back...the dude just isn't getting it done.

totally agree, he had flashes of Harvey in him..., he pounded into people and ran through them. Plus, he looked where he was running and appeared to be able to change direction.

I wrote in anther post, that there were a few piles with Quezada at the bottom that he pushed a few more yards. I love what Kariya did for us at Oklahoma, but Quezada needs to be on the field instead

Bronco loves guys like Kariya. He just does. I know his program goes out of its way to allow guys like Brian to play. It is part of the BYU culture that walk-ons who work hard get a shot, and I respect that. But you also have to respect the increased talent level Bronco has brought in recently. BK should play FB, and let JJ and Q get the carries, with Kariya getting an occasional pass catch or FB belly run. I would love to see us run it like 35-40 each game the rest of the year, and let our big uglies assert themselves that way, and take pressure off of Jake to have to win it for us. Let hi learn to manage a game this year, and then let him win them for us next year and after.

I definitely loved how juice would jump into guys trying to tackle him. It reminded me of Unga, Tonga and Fui. I expect that we will see a lot more of him as he continues to learn the offense and how to pick up blitzes during passing plays.

And his direction WASN'T toward the sideline! JJ just thinks he's always going to make it around that corner and he hasn't had the speed yet to be that defensive player and therefore doesn't pick up as many yards carrying the ball. He needs to cut in. Yes, he'll probably get tackled, but the difference for Juice was that he picked up a few more yards with each carry than JJ did trying to get around the ends.

Puma - would u care to compare season stats for JJ and Juice before you start pontificating how JJ is going about it all wrong and Juice is the answer to all. The coaches are bringing Juice along. Quite frankly - in the first 3 games he wasn't used much and didn't show much when he was used. He looked a little promising Saturday - against a weaker defense. There are a number of issues coaches look at - speed, size, strength, heart, knowing where to be, running, blocking, ball control, and probably more. I am confident BYU will play Juice more and more as HE IS READY as someone above posted.



Meanwhile - JJ is our MVP on offense and perhaps on the entire team. The guy on the bench is always the most popular player for some BYU fans. Remember Heaps. BTW - I love Jake Heaps and think he is a class act. He plays very well for a TRUE FRESHMAN. It is unfortunate that the coaches didn't have more time to bring him along before he was thrust into the fire. When he starts to play like he practices, he should be all that he is billed to be. Give it time with the new guys. As Doman said last week - the game hasn't slowed down yet for Jake. It will. The same, can be said to one degree or another for all of the new kids.



If Heaps made the throw to Kariya - which wasn't a difficult throw to make - on 3rd and 4 - that one would have gone a long ways. I was only able to listen to that part of the game on the radio - due to Internet Sling Guy switching to a different game - so I don't know if it would have gone to the HOUSE. But it had the 1st down and more.



I do hope to see more JUICE as he continues to prove himself. But that was a 3-play hurry-up package and they needed someone that could block on 2nd, get open and catch the pass on 3rd, and run over somone on 4th. Unfortunatley, Heaps did not get it called and off quickly enough and Nevada was ready for it after Heaps missed Kariya on the previous down.



When Heaps starts making the throws, hopefully with better protection from the line against the weaker opponent defenses we have coming Friday and a week from Saturday - everyone is going to look better on offense.

This throw from Heaps was definitely a lot more difficult than the throw he missed to a wide open Jacobsen in the corner during the fourth quarter...



I do agree that Q still needs to be brought along because his pass blocking is no where near where it needs to be for him to be an every down back or even a 3rd down back.

You have very selective memory if you think he was making over the shoulder Austin Collie types of catches against Oklahoma. He caught screens and one big play which was an eight yard hitch which he broke a tackle on and ran for 40 yards. None of those catches were anything near the difficulty of the above catch we are discussing. In fact they ran the same hitch route to Karya against FSU and he dropped the pass...



Kariya is a servicable player who excels based on the talent he has. If the game was on the line and you had to complete a pass I'm betting there are at least 15 people on BYU's offense that you would rather have the ball thrown to.

There are actually very few players I would rather see them throw to right now on this team. I have not seen the play - but KSL called it wide open and kept referring back to it as being a great call, wide open, but a badly thrown pass.



I would throw to Kariya.

Who spit on your Cherrios? Give me some more runs for Juice and I feel confident that he'll surpass JJ. I'm making the point that was especially obvious on Saturday that JJ tries to make it around the corner A LOT and he just doesn't have the speed to do it. There are times when if he would have done what I saw Juice naturally do, JJ it would appear to me that he would have made more yardage.



I didn't say I don't appreciate JJ or his job, it's obvious I'd rather have Harvey, but that isn't a choice, but JJ is a good player, but I don't think he'll ever be someone that I get overly excited about.

I never said any of this. I think JJ is the best offensive player on our team. He is explosive and is great in open space. He makes great catches and can create more yards. He is just not a between the tackles type of guy. Juice seemed to run with a little more power and showed some promise. I would like to see him get more touches. BK is a great team leader and seems to be a top notch guy...I personally think he should be used for blocking and an occasional carry.

Yea, and probably why we're 1-3 if JJ is the best offensive player on our team, which he probably is. And don't take that once again as saying I don't want him on our team, but when i think of players like Hall, Harline, Unga, Pitta, Collie, George, Brown, etc. I just can't put JJ at that same level. That does say a lot about what ales us.

I don't think anyone ever doubted that Quezada could run effectively--he did it all camp. It's the rest of the role that he needs to pick up at this point, especially with Heaps in at QB. Until he learns how to effectively pick up blocks in pass protection Quezada and all his running talent is going to spend alot of time on the sidelines. Basically you have to decide which player you want to grow up on the field this season: Heaps or Quezada. If they are both on the field together too often at this point, Heaps is going off the field on a stretcher at some point, because right now Quezada is offering about as much pass protection as Napolean Dynamite.

Kariya will always hold a special place in my heart because of his performance vs. Oklahoma. Plus, I saw "Mrs. Kariya" walk by me before the game and...damn...
