Spelling Pet Peeves

"We're going to loose to TCU." LOSE

"Could of, Would of, Should of." HAVE

"Our offense needs fixed." TO BE

"needs fixin'" also works in some states.

A grammar pet peeve from life in general is the use of the word "myself," when people aren't sure whether to use "me" or "I." For example "The three contestant will be Bill, Bob, and myself." It should just be "me."



Also, the use of "...and I" always, as opposed to only when you're the subject of the sentence. Example "He gave it to Shawn and I" or "This is between you and I."

A pet peeve of mine and it's not spelling, but it's when somebody leaves me a message on my phone and they give the call back number so quickly that I don't have time to write it down. Sometimes I have to replay the message three or four times to get the number. So please, if you have to leave a call back number, state it slowly AND repeat it slowly.

This one doesn't bother me b/c I do it all the time. I know the difference, but I type quickly and in a stream of consciousness style. Proofreading ain't my bag.

People who close their testimony "in the name of thy son....". Works for prayers, not for testimonies. But come to think of it, it's not such a big deal. Still....

Just so happens my grandma used to teach grammar at bgsu so I asked her and apparently, much to my chagrin, it's not wrong at all. I think it's an Idaho thing cause it still hurts my ears but what can I do?? Her whole family does it!

I hate to disagree with your granny and BGSU, but I've taken advanced grammar and I'm 99% positive that it is not correct grammar.
