Las Vegas Love?

Nevada opens as 2.5 point favorites at BYU, after scoring 52 points while destroying ranked Cal. They must be happy they postponed this game against us for just long enough to have a chance at winning it.

Vegas must be a lot higher on BYU still than BYU fans are. To them, losses haven't happened, they only go by how good they think you will play on Saturday. And they must realize that JJ could have 40 carries for 400 yards and 6 TDs against the Pack.

We need a healthy Matt Reynolds this week is all I know. That will helps us run it better. Going under center more and ball control will as well. That will be huge v. Nevada. I still think we can win this game. Kaepernick is like Locker. Make him throw it. Plus, Kapeernick's delivery is really ugly and inconsistent. We will be better at LES this week. count on it

After watching the Nevada game, the only thing that gives me much confidence that we can win is the fact that it will be their first road game. They looked good against Cal, Kapeernick's the real deal and that has me worried because I think of all our issues, the tackling issue is the biggest. Yes, even bigger than QB. Having said that, it is a very fixable problem so that keeps me confident.

Kaepernic(sp?) is the best QB we have faced all year. He throws equally as well as he runs. The only shot we have at slowing down Nevada's offense is if we can recruit the entire 2006 defense and play them instead of what we have this year. So the question is; can our offense somehow get into a groove against a Nevada defense that seems to give up a lot of yards and score 60pts in order to beat them 60 - 59.

Our only hope in this game is if our defense holds them to less than 30 points. Then again, that assumes our offense will put enough points on the board to outscore that less than 30 points. Ugh.

I agree with frdbtr and sno. Kapernick is better at throwing than lawboy believes. I watched two of their games this year. He can throw it and throw it well. he is very good. He is due for a bad game though. Hopefully we can provide him a forum for that saturday.



also to win we will have to hold them to 30. given the fact that cal has a better defense than us and they couldn't hold them to 50 that is a big thing to ask, even at home. nevada is averaging like 50 points a game. i know most their opponents suck but our rush defense is ranked 119.



I never lose hope with byu, but unless our offense keeps our defense off the field. This game will be uglier than the previous two put together.



our o needs to pick up the slack this game and keep long sustained drives alive.

Kaepernick's passer rating is 160.9. BYU's record the last 10 years with a passer rating of 160 or higher in a game: 39-3. BYU's record if you drop it 157 - Kaepernick's season low in passer rating: 43-4.

Kaepernick has yet to leave Reno this year, UNR is notoriously bad away from Reno, and whether you want to agree or not, Kaepernick has an ugly delivery. He is extremely talented all the same, though. But Nevada is run first, and we will key on that like we did with UW. Just need to tackle better and we will be just fine. Our pursuit was good Saturday, but the finishing was poor and it killed us. We have to tackle better on the edges. if we do, we improve drastically. If not, more trouble.



Listen, FSU scored 53 v. crap opposition too. 34 v. us. UW scored 17 v us and steamrolled Syracuse, put up 21 v. Nebraska. AFA clobbered their first team and put up 24 in Norman. At our worst, we gave up 35 and 34. Not 50+. And at home, we will be even better. Nevada will struggle to get 30 on us in Provo. The only issue in my mind is if we can break 30. If so, we win. We were good game 1 at home, and if the crowd shows and gets behind this young team, we will be better because both lines will feed off that positive energy. I still think we win. 31-27.

Nevada loses whenever Kaepernick gets stopped from running. Last season, he only ran for less than 75 net yards in 5 games and Nevada lost every single game, most by blowouts. Nevada also almost lost @ Utah State (3 point win) when Kaepernick ran for only 77 net yards.



Stop him from running and things get better for BYU.



Of course, none of this matters if BYU can't move the ball on offense.

Problem is, will it be difficult for Kaep to get a high passer rating vs BYU? I don't think so, especially with no Logan and the way our D is looking. Hope I'm wrong.

Problem is, will it be difficult for Kaep to get a high passer rating vs BYU? I don't think so, especially with no Logan and the way our D is looking. Hope I'm wrong.

Actually our passer rating D has been pretty decent. But so far our QBs and offense haven't shown the ability to take advantage of this.

Let me put it this way to you. Had Nevada played our schedule, what would their record be? I would give them the win at home to UW, and then give them losses at AFA and FSU. So basically, that puts them 1-2, just like us.



Nevada has feasted at home, and now it is time for them to hit the road, where they struggle. They are gonna come in here fat and ripe for the taking. Kaepernick will not be as effective at LES, they will not run it as effectively, and we will play much better. I still think we win this one, turn the momentum, and look better each week before the TCU game.

We have played a tough opening schedule and Nevada looks to be as good as any of them. It comes down to how much of a difference Provo makes and whether we have improved.



Keep in mind UW self-destructed in Provo or we could easily be 0-3. But I count it as a win. I hope Nevada chokes in Provo.
