Some Silver Linings?

- We haven't abandoned the running game in any of the three games (something Anae has done previously)

- We had our first game with more passing than rushing 1st Downs

- That's about all I've got.

-We're now not wasting this season by not preparing a QB and our offensive guys; they'll have a chance to work on their rhythm.

-If we win 5 more, we'll likely end up in the Armed Forces bowl(40 min. away) or Independence bowl(3 hours) (just a silver-lining for me and the other Y fans in TX)

-Since we have very little expectation, we can enjoy watching these guys develop; it's like 9 or 10 more spring games

-It's now more about enjoying the game of football than worrying about W's and L's (at least for me this is a silver lining)

Has this been announced? I do think a decision has to be made now.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if BYU has six wins they will be going to the Poinsettia Bowl. There is no chance that the Poinsetta Bowl will pass up BYU for their last chance to get them. If TCU is in the BCS I think that Vegas may even have a hard time choosing between a 2nd place Utah and six win BYU.

BYU (Anae) abondoned the run to JJ the entire 2nd half against air force, and again we went away from JJ the second half of the FSU game. Especially in the late 3rd, early 4th. Surprisingly enough, that is when we stopped moving the ball, no balance.

With the way our season is going, we may not lose any coaches after this season. Some might argue that's a bad thing. But these same coaches have given us 4 seasons in a row with 10+ wins. So in my book, this is a silver lining.

There were actually quite a few silver linings:



- We played FSU better and closer than we did last year

- Our defense - while struggling to tackle at the end - played a tremendous first half

- It appears (but who knows) that the coaches may stick with Heaps, and he looked promising out there

- JJ DiLuigi - despite having many fans turn on him early on - put together another great game

- No fumbles all game

- Each game that passes by, Hunter has looked more and more impressive

- Riley Stephenson cleaned up his kicking game, and Payne hit his first FG

Yes. To me, there is a difference. In Heaps' case, it wasn't necessarily poor ball protection... he was looking downfield and completely blindsided from the back by a lineman both times. What we DID avoid was silly fumbles from backs and receivers who knew that hits were coming but failed to hold and protect the ball the way they should have.

True. We have a great coaching staff - despite what some naysayers type on the internet. It's like owning & racing horses - you can only race what you have in the stable. Wanna win more - improve the stable. Get better & more horses. It's a simple analogy - but it does have application.

I think Heaps got some valuable experience in the 4th playing against a defense that knew we were passing on almost every down.



The biggest problem I still see is the receivers dropping passes they really should catch. Nevada does not have a good defense. I like our chances of the offense getting some confidence against a fairly bad defense at home.

I don't think that the LV Bowl or Poinsettia Bowl folks will pass up on 2 of 3 of AFA, TCU and Utah this season.
