I have this eerie crappy feeling...

I don't know about today! I was all giddy at the beginning of the week, but now it's all gone now. :~(

After watching Nevada manhandle Cal, and knowing we're in the hot and humid state of Florida. I ain't doing so well...

Seeing all the stats that are posted on here... Knowing we have always had a great offense(even statistics agreed), but we're no where close to it this year.

(((((sigh)))))

That eerie feeling is doubt. And I don't blame you.

Looking at FSU's weaknesses, Heaps should have an absolute aired out 300+ yard game. Why? 1-FSU has an atrocious-byu like DB group. Our DBs are much better now, but FSUs is terrible.

2-FSU can't handle no-huddle, quick tempo offenses...yet

Why this doesn't matter

1-our WRs can't block, catch, handle football

2-Anae has lost his mind, Doman has no say, Bronco wants to keep up with the Politeness Theory

3-Nelson will throw 30 passes with the longest pass being 10 yards, every other pass will be to the flats.

4-Nelson will run several times and only fumble 3 times losing 1.

5-Our Offense (traditionally) waits to look at the defense to get set, we can't quite say that this year since we don't have an offensive personality yet.

COACHES: LET THE BOY PLAY. if F(s)U is going to hang 62 on us, why not let Heaps roll out, throw bombs to McKay? Quit playing Luke Ashworth as a starter over McKay. He sucks, he quit on 2 passes at Air Force that were literally 10 feet from me. HE QUIT...he's quit a couple other big commitments too.

Which leads me to another key BYU needs if they want to avoid starting 1-3

6-Unity

Honestly, looking at how Nevada played. I'm just trying to imagine getting bowl eligible. At AF I heard "independence" cheers, laughing, "Crowton is back" And it sort of feels like Crowton is back, I sure hope he's not.

I'm pretty fair-weather in terms of my "giddy-ness." I get very excited for games when BYU is ranked or undefeated. Being 1-1 just doesn't get me giddy for an away game against a team that will very possibly walk all over us. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for the game, but I am obviously much more excited when BYU football is playing well. I really need a good game from BYU today to re-kindle my excitement

YBrit - u missed a big point. Our OL was schooled and did not protect either QB last week. Specifically, our Center, who is new and inexperienced at that position was unable to handle stunts, twists, and turns even when AFA was not blitzing. Matt Reynolds was bent over in pain from Flu symptoms - I assume he may have recovered by now. Our Center issue is tougher to fix. Our brand new fullback got a concussion vs UW and we basically do not have a real fullback to pick up blitzes. Do you really want to see Jake Heaps take that pounding that will come if this has not been fixed? Nelson has a body that can absorb those hits better and he can, on occasion, scramble and move the ball a bit while taking the hits.

If the OL plays like it did vs UW, both QBs will play much better - even if WRs and our brand new TEs drop passes and JJ fumbles. We do not have a bruising running game to take pressure off the QBs - I.E. JJ plus imitation FB of the day is not close to Harvey plus Fui or Manase - I.E. A pair of NFL or near NFL backs flanked by two NFL tight ends blows away what we have right now.

It will take time to fix all of this. You are right to be concerned but wrong to be impatient.

Bronco has a lot of talent to develop on both sides of the ball and unless the experienced guys on OL, WR, and Kicking Teams step up and take the pressure off the new kids very soon - long season.

Luckily, the schedule gets more friendly after General Conference.

Without big improvement, quickly, as outlined above, this team is going to start 1-4.

Go Cougs

I forgot to mention we had NFL caliber QBs with experience running the show the last 5 years.

All of that experience is suddenly gone. We may have similar talent in the making - but it is still in the making. The front 7 on defense have the same issue.

We have NFL talent at QB right now, it's time to start using it.

We have inexperienced, possibly eventual NFL talent at QB with little supporting cast and have tried with little success to use it for three quarters equivalent of a game. No doubt we will keep trying to develop that talent and the talent around him.

Lots of highly hyped, unproven, inexperienced BYU QBs have been assumed to be the answers to our prayers and the keys to our future in the past - but turned out not to have what it takes. Hopefully Heaps will meet expectations eventually that Ben Olsen, Paul Shoemaker, and others failed to meet while gritty, unheralded, QBs like All of the old greats, and especially guys like Sark, Feterik, Doman, Beck, and Hall exceeded expectations even in the face of fans that were not always supportive - especially early.

That feeling is the realization that we aren't good yet. We might be at the end of the season but right now we are terrible. Last week the whole team quit hopefully they won't this week.

I expect us to lose by 30. We will lose the next two games too. By the end of the season we will be fine.

Northern may be right- if we play like we did at AFA as a team, he is definitely right and maybe too optimistic.

When Anae says: looking back at Air Force I would NOT do anything different. It calls for impatience and questioning. byutx started a thread about Anae's style and mechanics that is spot on in terms of his actual capability as an OC. For the time being I'll let these losses go with patience, but it's very fair for paying fans to "expect" to at least beat the beatables. Including AF.
