UngoyOkay, so I keep hearing Ute fans toting the 53-34-4 advantage in the history of the rivalry. I decided to do a bit of research on this and came up with some interesting information.
Prior to the first game BYU-Utah game in Cougar Stadium in 1965:
Number of games in Salt Lake: 34
Number of games in Provo: 12
Record during that time:
BYU WIns: 5
Utah Wins: 37
Ties: 4
1965 to Present:
Games in Provo: 23
Game in Salt Lake: 22
Record during that time:
BYU Wins: 29
Utah Wins: 16
Prior to 1965 Utah had a decisive advantage as far as home vs. away games in the rivalry. Granted, for much of that time, BYU did not take football seriously, but the scheduling advantage is enormous. Since the series became a home and home, the win/loss has been far more balanced with BYU having the advantage during that time.
