I have been reading alot of posts on here about younger players being more talented than the older players in front of them. And I agree in alot of these cases. QB LB WR ect. I don't want to make this a bashing on individuals abilities. How much physical "TALENT" do you guys think transfers or makes up for the lack of knowledge of the scheme and understanding individuals roles in a certain play. Like if you have a Super talented freshman who is a freak of nature battleing with a Junior who is not as athletic or strong but is in position more than said talented Freshman would be? I know against the triple option it is all about scheme and discipline and being in the spot you are suppose to be. I think the coaches play who they think is more prepared to play not saying it is or was the right decision. Tough call glad I don't have to make it!!!!

I guess this depends on whether or not you think playing the young talents hurts you so much in the present that you can't worry about the future too.

In our case, I think we ride the "talent" so a so-so 8-4 or so season and bank on that experience in the future. '

Case in point, Corby Eason is ready to start and Steven Thomas is a backup and special teamer at best. I think at some point you have to consider Bradley for Thomas' job this year and get Corby on the field for this year and next.

Thanks that is the type of responce I was looking for! I also noticed Eason makeing a few plays. I felt bad for Thomas on a few plays as the announcers as bad as they were called him out.

The game could have been a while lot worse had afa ran exclusively to the frazier/thomas side (which they could easily dictate by alignment).

Where "talent" could help in these areas is that talent can make up for some mental miscues. Where frazier and thomas had to be perfectly sound mechanically and in their assignment to even have a chance, van noy and someone like uale could just get to a play just on instincts alone.

Having said that, stout played a lot in the second half, and not well.

You can make an argument for talent over fundamentals in a lot of games EXCEPT against Air Force. The one reason we've been easily able to handle Air Force for the last 6 years is not because we've had better talent than TCU and Utah, but because we had the fundamentals to be in the right place at the right time. This year we lacked that fundamental knowledge and in some cases sadly the talent as well.

Very true. And I agree.

But to the later part of your post, when you don't have fundamentals despite "preparations," and nothing is changing for the better, don't you give talent a chance to prove itself. Thomas, Bradley, Frazier, JJ fumbling, and Nelson (after they gameplanned against him) were all ineffectual.

Uale and Eason finally saw the field when the game was well out of hand. Thomas should have rode the bench after that first breakdown in coverage. JJ should have been benched after the first fumble, and Chambers in tandem with him. Nelson should have been benched after not sliding after he got the first, cause number one, you can't take shots like that and last a season, and number two he fumbled. Chambers not catching the TD in his hands on a great Nelson pass. Ashworth giving up on a very catchable deep ball by not running the play out, and then proceeding to drop a few others. Those were only the "big" mistakes, and not all the little constant little mistakes every play. But I guess your last name has to be Heaps to be benched for things you do wrong (TIC).
