Read that again - out of 128-ish D-1A teams, BYU is 91st in passing offense. BYU = 91. The same BYU that claims passing greats Wilson, Nielsen, McMahon, Young, Bosco, Detmer, Sarkisian, Beck, and Hall. The same BYU that revolutionized CFB with the forward pass 30 some-odd years ago.
BYU managed a whopping 88 yards of passing against AFA. Less than 100 yards. Pathetic.
The problem? Well, I'll say that there are multiple problems. It would help if our receivers and tight ends could, oh, you know, CATCH THE BALL! That's one problem. But the bigger problem? Well, lets just examine who took the overwhelming majority of the snaps at QB. Which QB played for 3 of the 4 quarters. Which QB who led such mindnumbing 2nd half drives that ended in punt after punt after punt, with one drive stalling after a QB keeper that resulted in a loss on 4th and 2.
So we have on the roster, one QB who was a nice highschool QB and could have D-1 talent at a lesser school, and we have one QB with legitimate NFL talent and a rocket arm. Soooooo.....remind me, WHO should be our starting QB? I think its stupifyingly obvious to everyone. Nelson has his place on this team. But that place is NOT as the starting QB.
