Identity Crisis

I know there is a lot of talk about how dismal our cougars played this weekend. I had high hopes after the first series ended in a TD, but watched in horror as the rest of the game played out. I can't say that I am surprised. As I watched the Washington game I had a sinking feeling that something wasn't right. During the AFA game, the same feeling was there, and it dawned on me what was bugging me. In years past BYU has had and identity. Max Hall and Jo.Beck defined the offense with TE's and their receivers. Cameron Jenson and Bryan Kehl defined the defense. I always knew what I was going to get with every team. This year...nothing!! When the offense runs out, I don't know what I am going to get...with the D...same problem. I can't even identify the leaders of the team. I think, until this team can establish an identity, this will be a loooooooong year.

this is exactly what made me sick about the game. If we had an identiy and lost i could just say lesson learned and move on with optimism that we would get better as we take our lumps. This year however we don't have an identity set yet so while we are taking lumps its i not helping us as much as it should.



my opinion: jake should have been getting all the snaps he could coming out of spring camp and riley should have been used as a situation qb. the florida leak tebow model should have been our 'identity' coming into the season. two qb is a cop out and simply prolongs fall camp sort of speak. I think the air force game made that clear however and that is the direction we are going. we need to just throw these young talented guys into the fire and get them the experience they need to be great.

Totally agree jonnylingo. Why not get the young guys going. My biggest complaint is at the QB position. I remember well when Hall was coming in everyone was nervous because he was a Sophomore and inexperienced. Hall came in and was very good because the coaches worked him to death in the offseason. He didn't have to worry about coming out every other series. The coaches prepared him to succeed and he did. I think they made a major mistake in not preparing one QB over the other...and now it is showing. Although hindsight is 20-20, should have named Heaps starter with Nelson and situational, and worked the crap out of Heaps. All I see now is a QB who could be good if his timing, throws, and tempo was down with his receivers and line. I guess we will see on Saturday how it will play out.

We had an identity. We were going to be a 2 QB team. We had a set rotation. This identity was announced by Bronco. But when the decision was made to go with 1 QB - regardless of whom made the deicisin and what that decision was - our identity was lost. And now Bronco and Company stand a chance of seeing this team splinter. The indentity has been shattered. The team has lost and not fractures are appearing. it will be intereisting to see how this works out.
