Bronco's Monday Morning Comments

Reading Greg Wrubell tweet Bronco's comments from the press conference... (can I tell you how happy I am with the tweet box? I think it's the best addition to Cougarcorner). It reminds me why I have trust in Bronco. I feel like he is really taking charge of the situation.

Indeed. Start Heaps against FSU, let him play, let him learn how compete against a very good team. BYU is not going to win much with an option offense--that has got to be thrown out, and now! Nelson can play, in certain situations, maybe even against certain teams, but BYU must throw in order to win.

I agree, the tweetbox is AWESOME!!!

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said in his news conference today that QBs will be rotated more on a situational basis now. No set rotation.

MUSIC TO MY HEARS. Only wish they would have done this coming out of spring ball. But better late then never.

This one is interesting. Did they give up on the game? Because while I was there I was hoping they would put the passer in to at least make an attempt at a comeback but they didn't. Did they throw in the towel? Did they make the decision to keep riley in for reasons other than they thought he was the best option? I am getting that feeling.



Wow, Air Force really waxed us. That is what happens when you prep for one team all year long. They played a patsy week one and then had a young byu team the second game of the year. How did byu get that draw? any other team int he mwc would have lost the way air force was playing saturday.



I don't know but after watching that game and having the information we have now i don't see how anybody could come to any other conclusion other than that riley is a 'situational' quarterback and that jake needs to start taking his licks in preparation for the future.

Okay, I don't mean to be a negative nancy here in the midst of some good news... but I can't help but wonder how on earth it took Bronco this long to figure these things out... or at least act on them. Nearly any coach, fan, or person who has played football could have told Bronco this before the season even started. Oh well, at least it seems the proper action is being taken. Hopefully we can pull out a big win on Saturday.

2 games isn't that "long". And I don't mind the QB rotation for a few games, to let Heaps get his feet wet at the D-1 level without having the entire burden of the team on his shoulders. But not putting Heaps into the game after the 3rd straight offensive stall by Nelson in the 2nd half of the AFA game is, in my humble opinion, inexcusable. Our best chance of winning that game was through the air. And our best passing QB didn't see the field for the entire 2nd half.

If we are reading into this correctly it excites me very much. There were a few moments in the UW game during Heaps drives where I thought to myself "we really need Nelson in there for this play" and there were a thousand times during the air force game, (especially in 3rd down) that I though to myself why don't they put Heaps in to complete a pass on 3rd down.



I hope this is true. Even if we lose at FSU at least we have an identity.
