Riley's cadence?

What was up with the 6 false starts with him in, and none for Jake early into the 2nd?



I know they probably have more motion with Riley's offense, but should it be that bad? Was his cadence off or something?



Just one more reason that splitting snaps and creating a new offense were a bad idea. We take the O-line, by far our biggest strength and make them a weakness.

Part of the problem is that AFA picked up on Riley's snap count and called it out to get our guys to jump which, of course, is illegal.

Yeah that for sure is. Is that what was going on? 6 times, though? That makes sense, but it seems like we would tell the refs, or they would pick up on it. Maybe that is why it went away after a while.

No. You could see an AFA helmet move (which happens when you bark something out) while at the same time he or another DL shifted. Then there was a whistle and 2 or 3 BYU OL's pointing at the DL and complaining to the ref. At one point Reynolds went up and talked to the ref about it.



It's the same thing that Utah does, though on a more slight scale-their whole line shifts. The difference is that they got flagged for it a few times. AFA did not.

I'm not a qb, I spent my amateur days hitting them - or trying to - and that was one of the things that you tried to figure out first, is find out his cadence so you can get off the ball quicker. The good qb's would switch up cadences in between plays, and the really good ones would actually use that against you. They would draw you offsides with your own aggressiveness, and they wouldset it up that way. They would do the boot thing, then flip their arms and say hut, and after 10-15 times of doing that, they would do the same thing but "hut hut" and BAM! You were offsides, (obviously the O line knew it was on two that time). It really does something to a defensive players psyche to draw him off sides, it takes away a little bit of his edge and aggression. Just one more thing looked over in this QB2 offseason, I imagine.

This is something Mark Lyons was going crazy about during the broadcast of the game, and yes, the BYU coaches were complaining about it to the officials (at least according to Wrubell and Lyons, but nothing happened).

I remember last years game with AF Bronco complained to the officials about them calling out the snap count and a couple of plays later the official flagged AF for that. These guys must have been hard of hearing!

I think it's not very likely that BYU is going to get the benefit of the doubt on any calls in conference this year.

Which makes me wonder what refs we will be using at home games and even away games. Heaven helps us when we play a pac-0 team on the road. We will be playing against more than 11 guys on the field.



I also remember the bruh-haw with AF in the past imitating the snap and finally getting called for it. Just another one of their dirty little tricks.
