Bronco said on the Coaches show that it was Coach Anae and Doman's decision about who to play in the QB position and that he trusted them to make the right decisions on who to play.

Well quite simply it was the wrong decision. Hence no points in the secon half

My hope is they were thinking about this game only--in that case I can kind of understand. But when it was a 21 pt game, come on. And here on out this should be a no-brainer. We all see it so hopefully they do too.

EPIC FAIL by Anae and Doman. Not sure I trust their judgment now after this. I get giving Riley the 3rd, but after he proved futile, they should not have continued on with him. At that point, was time to switch it up.

It definitely makes me wonder what they were seeing/thinking to go that route. I would have put in Heaps.

Perhaps they were letting Nelson dig his own grave? I know I'm probably way way off...but you could not have made a better case for Heaps than by letting Nelson run run run

Nelson runs the option great. The problem is that the option can't be the center piece of the offense. There are times and places that Nelson should come in and run that type of offense, but not the whole game. Having said that...I am not sure it makes a difference who the slinger is if the receivers are going to drop the ball on key downs.

A 2 QB system makes little sense... even less sense when it's not even situational. This "back and forth" 2 QB system is complete crap... and it makes even less sense whenever they decide to put the wrong QB out for multiple possessions at the end of the game. It's time to start thinking about the future. Heaps has much greater potential, Nelson does not. I don't mind seeing Nelson in for certain situations, but the way that the QB's were managed today was just flat out awful.

Sorry, but shouldn't the head coach make that decision? Especially when the QB they chose was ineffective in passing. Heaps could have used the real game reps, and the head coach is the one in charge of making that happening.

I'm a little annoyed if Bronco really deferred to Anae and Doman in this case, because anyone with eyes could see that Nelson was a complete hack the remaining 3 quarters of the game once Air Force adjusted.

I think it's very unlikely that BYU coaches would do something in order to have a player dig himself his own grave. I can only think they felt that something was going on out there that wasn't safe or good for Heaps to be out there. But really, I don't know.

I think we see how easy it is to gameplan for Riley Nelson when he's the main option. A good secondary ate him alive and Heaps never got a legitimate chance to assert himself.

I'm on neither bandwagon, I just want to win, but the BYU coaches all failed today. They got out game planned, out strategized, and BYU let their plan and players fall apart.

Going into the 2nd half it was still anyones game and our Cougs simply got it handed to them. It's clear that AFA planned for us over the entire off season and it's also clear that we planned for Washington.

It's pretty simple: the 2 QB system - if we're going to have it - needs to be situational. There is no "strategy" behind a "back and forth" system. It is what it is - back and forth.

Riley posed a threat to Air Force at first, but as all saw, the offense became very predictable very quickly. Unfortunately I don't think we're going to a see a situational system. It's either going to continue on this way, or one of the QB's is going to become a permanent starter.

I think the coaches did a lot more harm than good in not giving Heaps a shot at least in the 4th quarter. I can tell you that if I was Heaps and didn't get back in the game, I'd be ticked off. You throw your first collegiate interception and watch the rest of the game from the bench while you team struggles to get anywhere and clearly needs to pass the ball after falling behind by 21 points? Their decision not to put Heaps in defies explanation. If it was a clear mistake that the Versus commentators can point out, you better believe it that some on the team also recognized the stupidity of it all.

AFA uses the QB Option as their centerpiece offense - and they thrashed our Defense pretty well with it. AFA just had a better game plan & brought a lot of energy to the game. AFA won that game. They beat us good. Now we look for "teachable points" - grow - evolve & move on.

Between last game and the first quarter of this game, it seemed to me like Nelson had gotten over his tendency to look to one receiver then tuck his head and run. When he got into scramble mode last year, you knew that no matter how open someone could get, they weren't even going to get a look. Through spring ball, it seemed like he was working really hard to be more of a passing threat in order to fit in the offensive scheme more, and I thought it showed during the Washington game and the first quarter of this game. Many times when he scrambled, he kept his eyes up for receivers. Even if he ran it most of the time, he had his eyes up.

This stopped toward the end of the second quarter. It got to the point that every time he was pressured, it felt just like last year. I think that if he would have been taken out for a while, and the coaches would have calmed him down, that he wouldn't have slid too far back into his run-happy self. Instead of trying to calm him down, they gave him all of the reps, and by the end of the game it felt to me that all of the work he put in during the off season on his passing game was practically wasted.

I am not saying that either quarterback was better than the other at the start of the game, but I think that the last two quarters of the game ruined Nelson's chance to compete with Jake in this offensive scheme. I know the line wasn't doing so hot, but by the end you could tell that looking down field wasn't even on Riley's mind when he took a snap. Just my two cents.

I am just catching up with everything. I had to take a client golfing this afternoon--i know, a tough life and a tough choice. Followed on espn.com stat updates as much as I could.

I know nobody likes "told you so's" and I'm sure I will get lashed out at, but as i hear what y'all are saying and what I'm watching on the dvr, but I've said it a bunch of times--Riley will get shut down and the ball will have to go down field!!!!!!

Coaches decided against going downfield and went the "safe route" or the "lets save Jake route" or "no way can we trust a freshman route" but this seems senseless. I do trust Bronco to figure it out and analyze the situation. And maybe he threw anae under the bus.

But again, maybe they do not want to sacrifice Jake and would rather have Nelson sink or swim.

What if Jake had come in and we lost as bad? His confidence goes down. MOst fans are roasting jake instead of Nelson.

Wow, on another note, another fumble by Diluigi. Havent seen that before have we.

Final analysis, this team was going to struggle and evolve. NOt terribly surprised.

Bummer. Better days ahead--after FSU. :-)

Bronco isn't throwing Doman and Anae under the bus, if he says that's what happened then that is what happened. But the decision to go with Anae and Doman was Bronco's so he has a part to play in all of this too. He can't pass THAT buck to someone else.

I agree. They need to pick one. Either we are an option team with Nelson or we are a pro set team with Heaps. Personally, I don't want to watch an option offense all season long. It is great for a change of pace for 3 and 3 on their 25 or something, but BYU needs to have a guy behind center that can throw the ball farther than 15 yards with accuracy and zip. My concern is that they indeed did pick one in the 2nd half of today's game.

The problem with rotating, is that you are taking the competition out of it. It makes for nice news articles when everyone is holding hands, but it doesn't win football games. It is just plain stupid to take someone out when they lead a touchdown drive. "Nice job son, we appreciate that touchdown, let's see if you can do that after sitting on the bench for 10-20 real-time minutes." If Riley is leading TD drives, leave him in until he is not, and vice a versa.

I think we seriously underestimated AF, and they hit us in the mouth.

I wish I could listen in while the coaches speak into the headphones.

Bronco: Brother Anae... Do you realize its the 3rd qtr and you just sent Nelson in again?

Anae: Yeah Brah!

Bronco: Okay. We just discussed to alternate our two QB's and I wanted to execute that.

Anae: Doman and I agreed to this, Brah!

Doman: Its true brother Bronco. We just think Nelson gives us our best opportunity, since our WR's are dropping everything.

Bronco: Okay my fellow Priesthood bearers. Just remember.... Execute.

Anae: Yeah Brah! We'll just run Nelson up the middle and occasionally up the sides. If it doesn't work the first ten times.... It will the eleventh Brah! If not... I'll call a passing play to our butterfingers.

Bronco: Butterfingers? Which one?

Anae: Pick one. We have many.

Bronco: I trust your judgement. Just make sure you execute it.

Anae: We've worked together for a few years now Brah. You know me now!

Doman: Its true Brother Bronco. We've been successful in the past. We'll mix it up and run our scrambling QB and they won't know what to do.

Bronco: Okay. Just execute it.
