Future BYU LB

Here is the kid I mentioned a year or so ago. I think he is in 9th grade. He LOVES Bronco and used to go to Shilo's house evertime Bronco or Doman showed up there and Broco does already know his name. Enjoy...he is #8 in the video



BTW he goes by KU-J as in Ku jay. He comes from a great and humble family that loves the church and BYU.

I dont' think I can take another Hawaiian heartbreak... I' ve heard that "love BYU' term thrown around recklessly on the islands; with few recent tangible benefits and several headaches.

Please forgive my ignorance and pessimism for asking, but why in the heck does a 9th grader have a highlight real (Aside from the fact that he is obviously athletically gifted).

Please tell me bc the high schools are recruiting him.

Please tell me bc this is normal behavior for a phenom.

Otherwise I have to side with Craigo, this kid is on a 2-3 year ego trip thats needs a much larger stage than little ole BYU and a "team-is-us" mentality. This kid has Oregon or ND written all over him.

Of course, so did Jake Heaps, so there is always the exceptions and would love this kind of talent and commitment, if it holds, to Church, family and BYU.

That said, if he loves BYU, (and really, truly does, and isn't just "shwenke-ing") then he is loved back.

I think the question of whether the kid got other people to make it for him or if it was done without him requesting it needs to be asked first, cause that would make a big difference in my opinion of him.

gotta say I liked that at one minute in the video on the bad snap...instead of going for the ball he still went for the QB and laid him out leaving the ball for his teammate.

Definitely. Reminded me of the Oregon State game in the Las Vegas Bowl where Pendleton blew Jaquizz up letting Bauman pick up the fumble.

Fair enough... but It seems like he would at least need to okay it, because it's done in his name. If someone else just did it then that's cool. If his parents did it, or consulted for it, color me a little worried.



I'm more shocked that a kid that doesn't drive has a highlight vid, I mean this level of strategy and gameplay is one step up from 6 year old soccer kids migrating around the ball.

All I can say is that BYU is adding Hawaii back onto its schedule long term for a reason. Get coaches over there to recruit easier, lets kids see BYU live, and let's kids know BYU is coming to town regularly so their folks can see them play. The issues with Hawaii based kids started when BYU stopped making visits. We go back, win the coaches over again, the communities, etc and get Bronco in town for a fireside, and the Hawaii pipeline is back in play. Count on it.

We covered this in past Kahuku posts; but it seems there's a sentiment that Bronco and crew favor their Utah kids (even walkons) over Kahuku boys. Case in point, was Scotty playing over Shiloah and others. (I didnt' say I agreed, I'm just repeating past interactions)



Then the two teo incidents happen and within a few months we lose the commitments of Haoli Jamora and Kona Schwenke; not to mention that V.J. Fehoko was lying to everyone and their mother that he had Pac-10 offers, etc. when no one but Utah had offerred. It just soured me on the entire deal. Particularly when we have guys like Brian Logan and Corby Eason that have no connection to the church or BYU, yet act like this is heaven on earth to them.



I just have a bad taste in my mouth right now from those kids; and I dont' want to take a kid that doesn't want to be here, and then risk having a mutiny in house, etc. Not with all the good we have in the program right now.



I believe that Bronco judges every kid and family by their own merit; but I wouldnt' blame him for being a little leery about putting his neck out for Hawaiian kids right now.



The better BYU gets and the higher our profile gets with ESPN, etc. the more kids are going to be knocking down our door. We have our foot in the door with Trinity Euless, we own Bingham and Timpview high and have connections elsewhere; I dont' think we need the islands, or rather they need us more than we need them.



As for this kid, I wouldn't blame a parent for a second for making a highlight video. It's fun and this kid certainly merits one. He's a ruthless hitter for his age and shows a lot of potential. Obviously his competition is ho-hum but the boy is not afraid of contact and doesn't waste a lot of time getting to where he needs to get. If my wife can post videos of our 3 yr old at dance recitals (get ready for it brad, greg, chad, all my other fb friends etc. it's going to happen) then why can't a proud father or family make a highlite vid of their hard hitting son. If this is enough to help get the kid a free college education, then mission accomplished.



I would love to see the trend change and for the islander Hawaiian boys to help BYU win a national title; but I won't believe it til I see it. If they can start keeping their commitments and avoid the flaky wishy washy crap we've seen the last few years then I'd welcome them with open arms.

Maybe something changes and he ends up at USC or podunk U-only time will tell but man it is WAY to early to start looking for signs that he is going to pick another school. As for the video, it is kinda a thing people do these days. And looking at who made it I can see it is a family video done not as a recruiting tool as much as just a tribute to their son.

Yeah, I certainly have no problem with the video or the age of the kid and I love that he says he loves BYU and Bronco.



I remember 2-3 years ago we were drooling over V.J. Fehoko at that age though; and we all know that by the time he was a senior, he was just wayyyy too slow to play major D-1 football and he had attempted to play every program against each other to get more offers. A lot of schools weren't having it and even went out of their way to state that they had not offered him and were not going to. There are a few articles on TBS written about Kona and V.J. by no less than a Schwenke and that still didn't keep V.J. from spreading lie after lie about his recruiting and of course Kona from renigging last minute.



It's just a sore subject and certainly this kid cannot be held accountable for the actions of others; it's just hard for me personally, to trust cant' miss prospects from Hawaii right now.

I'm not saying he's a can't miss hence the podunk u comment but I just thought this would be an early heads up on a kid that has a motor that doesn't quit and is so excited about Bronco and BYU. Things change, people change but at least its a glimpse.

These kids and other recruits need to go to BYU. Bronco is communicating that they need to earn the scholarship and not just on the football field.

Let's pull a USC and offer him a schollie now. Being from Hawaii the past 8 years, I don't find the generalized venom being directed at Kahuku prospects is beneficial to BYU.

I would agree, but it isn't without reason either, based on how things have gone down the last 3-4 years with some island recruits. Hoping Graham Rowley gets it rolling for us again.

Not to brag, but my freshman son, who plays SLB, only have fifteen solo tackles Thursday, recovered a fumble, and about three sacks.
