Hate the SEC

How in the world is Auburn ranked? They haven't earned a spot in the top 25 in four years, they are having serious trouble with Miss St., and WE'RE not ranked!? I hate, Hate, HATE the media's love affair with the overhyped, overrated SEC.

Amen. This is an ugly game. A bunch of tall, quick athletes running around making the occasional spectacular play does not make you a top team. These teams represent the middle tier of the SEC. If you're telling me the powers in the West (BSU, BYU, Utah, TCU) couldn't compete for the SEC championship every year then you are smoking something. And that's not even including potential free W's vs Arkansas, Vandy, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Ole Miss. Yeah a lot of "beating each other up" going on down South!

ignore rankings until week 8. They are worthless until then and will only make you mad. Note: if ND gets to 4-0 they'll be top 10.

The only true comparison comes in Bowl games. It's kind of hard to call a conference overrated that is 6-0 in BCS Championships and 14-5 in BCS Bowl Games. They know the formula and do it very well and they back it up on the field, not in some imaginary poll. You can say what ever you want about the SEC but you can't say they don't earn everything they get in not only BCS Bowls but every other bowl the conference plays in. You're definitely showing your green with envy goggles. The conference I have issues with is the Big 10. How does Ohio State start in the top 5 every year only to get their lunch handed to them by the SEC flavor of the year in the BCS NC game? When are the powers that be going to wake up and smell the crap that's coming out up there!!!

Sorry, I don't put as much stock in bowl games as everybody else does, it's just one more game. Also, what big bowl game has Auburn played in the last five years? Just because your good teams win their bowl games, doesn't mean that the rest of the conference deserves to be ranked. So yes, I can argue with bowl results.



PS--"Earn everything," REALLY? With OOC games vs FCS and Sunbelt teams, all at home? Gimme a break.

You're right, since Bama and Florida have won national championships, that means that a team who barely squeaks by Miss St. deserves to be ranked because they're in the same conference. Yeah, and you two have absolutely no bias of your own living in/near SEC country, right? :roll: ;)

But you ask an SEC fan what Utah's beat down of Alabama counts for and they'll say "nothing." You can't have it both ways with single games determining quality. Is the top of the SEC the best? No doubt. But don't talk to me about how every game every week in the SEC is a tough affair. Tell me that you consider any of the teams I listed as perennial contenders in any major conference.

Auburns qb(who was player of the game) 136 yards passing 2 tds, 70 yards rushing.

Nelson had those stats and he had half the snaps!!!!

SEC offense SUCKS. They get touted as having tough defenses but I will argue their defenses are so "good" because their offenses have always SUCKED.

Hey my only bias is for the Cougs. They are always number 1 in my poll. :crazy: I have a slight bias for the MWC top 3 but the rest of that conf. is the pits. Hey I even pulled for Utards :sick: against Alabama when they played. You can talk weak OOC all you want but in the SEC those are warm-up games for conference play. Doesn't matter who you play for OOC if you can't win your conference, so better to schedule to help your team grow and prepare for that conference effort. Like I said the SEC has the formula down to get to the NC and if they didn't deserve it they certainly wouldn't be 6 - 0 in BCS title games. The years they didn't make it to the title game they didn't deserve it.

But you yourself said they always end up playing some super weak Ohio St. team that has no business getting off the short bus.



I think the SEC has the masterfully hidden the fact that they are the most over rated conference in college football by playing absolutely no one out of conference, playing crappily against one another, then having favorable bowl tie ins.

Yet if BYU were to play and beat Mississippi State in Starksville this year, folks here on this board would be proclaiming from the tops of the mountains a great win over a quality opponent! After all, another win over an SEC opponent would give BYU as many all time wins over SEC teams as Wyoming has had in the past 10 years.



I dislike the SEC and think that the conference isn't quite as good as the media makes it out to be. That said, I believe that the SEC is still the toughest football conference.

Wow. alot of tough talk on this thread. I would venture to say that most folks are arguing against the over-hype and media bias toward the SEC. Unfortunately, the argument goes too far taking on the actual quality and strength of teams and conference.

Anybody have BYU's record against the SEC? it cant be very good. Its not very good against the weaker ACC either.

Now, the Big 10. That's serious overhype.

Definitely not in the Bronco era

Much of the talk here misses the point. I'm not talking about producing the one strong enough team to beat the Big Ten or Big XII champ, I'm talking about having half of your teams ranked every preseason because of it. It's a joke to have so many SEC teams ranked and have teams like the MAC champions, Conf-USA champions, etc. struggle to even get a sniff. There's a lot more parity in college football than the pollsters and BCS would have us believe (see Wyo vs Tenn for just one of many examples).

BYU is 1-3 versus the SEC. Win over Miss State. Losses to Miss State, Alabama, Georgia.



BYU is 4-9 versus the ACC. Wins over BC, Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia. Losses to BC (2), Florida State (3), Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia (2).



I think BYU's best record against a BCS conference is versus the Big 12.

My only problem with the SEC and ACC right now is the blatant win at all costs mentality down there. It's like having a bunch of mini-USCs in the entire southeast of the country.



FSU cheats and has cheated for years (even helping their students cheat)



Tennessee put cheating on the map last year with Kiffin and ultimately will pay the price when the NCAA gets around to them



North Carolina, Georgia, and Bama have been looking the other way for years with agents and money. Ryan Sims, who was drafted here by Kansas City (another horrible pick by the chefs), had a range rover at UNC... They all lost eligibillity of their best players this month. Saban blames agents; I blame coaches that are unwilling to reel in their top talents.



South Carolina is even caught up in the current payments to players issues.



KyCoug is right, the Big 10 is the most overrated and bloated conference of them all, but for the most part, they've managed to keep their noses clean (til Rich Rod left West Virginia and Kelvin Sampson joined Indiana hoops)
