Classy move by BYU

Did anybody else notice that before the game the BYU band turned and faced the Washington fans and played their fight song? I don't remember them doing this in the past but it is a classy move by BYU and I really like it.

Been doing this since late 2005 or the start of 2006. I believe Bronco saw ND do this when we went there in 2005 and borrowed it.

Yes. We got the idea from Notre Dame...but they play the opposing team's fight song to the visiting fans AFTER the game - win or lose. Notre Dame is by far the leader of college football tradition. Once you have witnessed a game at South Bend your opinion of what college football should and ought to be changes drastically. They put on the ulitimate college football 'Pagent' in the country - and I don't know of any one even close to them.

And we'll have plenty of opportunities to see all that pageantry in the near future!

What I don't exactly understand is that unless I've been totally swept away with the events around me, I have not noticed it done for all conference foes. Have I missed it or am I correct? I'm pretty sure we don't do it for Utah, but in their case, they are one of the very, very few that ever bring any members of their band along. Utah's band is always part of the joint band tradition of half-time.

It has nothing to do with whether or not the opposing team brings their own band, it is done out of respect for the opposition. I suspect that being an independent will allow this type of a tradition to flourish since there will not be the built in hatred by the likes of the MWC dead weights.

Another classy thing that ND does, is applaud oponents who are good enough to come into their stadium and beat them.

Well then you have more information than I have, but I do know we don't do it for Utah because during the years we have had this in place, we have not played the Utah fight song. That I know for certain.

We don't do it for conference opponents, only out of conference visitors.

It is a classy move. But our band also started playing when the UW band was playing. SOund differential is overwhelming. Not exactly good form.

On the opposite end of the classy band spectrum. Anytime we scored during the UW game, their band would start playing while we were playing our fight song...I thought that was pretty disrepectful

I have seen that to quite a regular occurance in situations where you have both bands. I remember watching a high school game in Leesburg, VA where the officials stopped the game to shut up the two bands because they were trying so hard to outplay each other that you couldn't hear yourself think. It was funny.



Isn't it a rule though in college that a band cannot play while the ball is snapped, therefore limiting when a band can play, but during the time they can play, they can oppose each other. Happens every Utah/BYU game.

I know they didn't do it during the FrUte game last year, but I don know that the FrUte band was incessantly annoying when they played their " :utard: man" fight song after almost every single dang dead ball. I seriously wanted someone to shut them off.
