Air Force Will Be a Tough Game

Air Force has had this game circled the whole off season. They were even getting film from jake heaps' high school opponents. Air Force wants this game and they want it bad.



We must bring our A game. If Bronco pulls this game off like he pulled off last week it will be a big accomplishment.



I think he will but I am not feeling calm about it at all.



On a separate note I want to win the tcu game almost, not quite, but almost as much as I want to win the utah game. To me I don't even care if we lose to FSU if we get a win over tcu and utah. Why, well because it would be sweet to win the conference and beat tcu our last year playing them after they have spanked us for two years running. I think we have a real shot.



we kicked the trash out of oregon state who barely lost to them. I understand they are different teams but we can beat them this year in their place and we will!! I want this air force game and that game. After FSU beats oklahoma there will be no shame in that game being our only loss ("if" we lose).



At the end of the year, we will beat utah yet again. pendleton will finish wynn of this time to the point where he can't come back into the game. Pendleton may not even get the chance with how fragile that wynn kids is. He may be out before we even get to play him.

I want to beat TCU because of their whiny, cowardly attitude. They say this is the last time they'll ever play us? We'll then lets destroy them, without mercy!

Two years ago, TCU knew that the road to the championship went through Provo, so they put a BYU helmet on their tackling dummy. Similarly, AF knows that the road to the upper echelon and any chance at a championship goes through Provo (metephorically), so they have placed similar emphesis on this game.

I want this so bad!! I hope Bronco has been prepping for that game all year. I would think he put some major time into it. I hope so anyway. We need to beat them and put their bcs dreams in check!



I may be getting ahead of myself here but if we beat TCU in that game we will likely be beating a top 5 team. That catapults us up in the rankings and probably a head of most other nonaq schools. this makes for a real showdown with utah come november.

I agree that AF is a tougher game than many believe. Our defense will have to be very disciplined and if we can avoid turnovers, we will win this game in a similar fashion to UW. i dont think we blow out this AF team. Our offense is not running on high octane just yet. (Catch the ball, recievers!!)



As for FSU, its a crap shoot as to what mental game they bring. If they do beat OU, they will have a risk of big heads and even letting down for an opponent they destroyed last year and who lost all their star players to the nfl. Who knows, maybe we play them closer this year. We were the cocky ones last year.



As for TCU, I look forward to seeing their next few games (well, hearing the results---cause who the heck knows if they will be on tv!!). I'm not convinced they are improved over last year. They are very solid, but Hughes and the LB were the heart and heros of that team. Dalton, to me, still looks only slightly better than Locker. More accurate. Not sure they get passt the yewts--well until I heard skinny boy is hurting.

If we can beat UW, and their size and athletes, we can beat AFA. AFA is a great program, disciplined with good kids. But only way they get us is if we turn it over too much. Otheriwse, our O-line will dominate, our front 7 will get it done, and we win as we should. Just need Nelson/Heaps to protect the ball.

This is the answer.



UW got ZERO sacks against us, and gave up 140 rushing yards, at 4.4 yards per carry. If you can give your QB the time he needs and rush over 4 YPC, your offense will generally do just fine. Our O-line will have an even bigger advantage against the D-line of AFA, so I would expect sacks to be few to none, and YPC to be 5 or better.



The only other variables on offense are things like turnovers, QB accuracy, and receiver drops. We did a great job with turnovers last week, and QB accuracy was very good (completion was 60%, but I'd say 72%-75% were on target, which is exactly what you need from your QB). Drops are a concern to me, but I'm guessing that fixes itself early in the season.



I'm also not worried about defending Air Force. Defending the option is one of Bronco's passions. He's done it well every year he's been here. We have all the right ingredients to be even better at it this year. We have: 1) improved lateral speed at LB, 2) a hard-hitting, sure-tackling strong safety, 3) corners that can get off blocks to force things inside and/or make open field tackles, 4) a disciplined, execution-based defensive mindset, and 5) a solid D-line has a knack for just being in the right place at the right time. There may be breakdowns at times due to youth or inexperience, but I expect those to be few enough that we should handle them easily. Also, if Hill needs more speed to shut down the option, he has the 2-5-4 alignment ready to go, and our players already have some live experience with it from last week.



In conclusion, I think the preparation for AFA is tough, but we are good at it, and proper execution results in an easy game.

I don't think AF did themselves a favor scheduling NWState. At first, I was nervous that AF dropped 62 points, then I took a look at who they played: That team didn't win a single game last year, and they were blown out by their peers in Div 2 (or 1AA or whatever that is). AF probably could have better used their time having another practice. Hopefully, this is to our favor, being as this will be their first game against a real opponent, whereas we have the win against Washington under our belt.

Nothing to say beyond that. I am convinced that some force beyond our understanding has decreed that if BYU plays, and the game is on Versus, we lose.

I was gonna say, BYU UCLA 2008 was on Vs. so BYU just needs to channel the mojo they had in that game... :)
