Chad Lewis - BYU football more than a game

One of the more notable events of the whole night was the amazing response BYU fans gave Jim McMahon! That was awesome. That showed great class from Cougar Fans. Jim dominated as a player at BYU. After he left, he has said plenty of disparaging things about the place, but you would never have known that by the way the whole stadium embraced him. I know from visiting with some of his friends that he was touched by the reception and that some bridges were restored. What a tribute to BYU fans. That was heart warming and inspiring.

Chad Lewis is a Stud with a capitol S. I love his passion, positive spirit and love for all things BYU. How could that article not get you pumped for BYU football. I thought is comments on John Walsh were very telling. A former QB starter that took a BYU team to a final top 25 ranking should never feel uncomfortable coming back to BYU. He should be welcomed home with open arms. I was a John Walsh fan and feel that is biggest mistake at BYU was following up Ty detmer. If he had played at any other time, he would have been loved like the others. Anyway, props to Chad, hopefully he blogs more often. Or, maybe Bronco should make him the primary football recruiter. What kid wouldn't come to BYU after having this ball of fire in their house. I Love it!

I would say his mistake was leaving early for the NFL. He could have been All-American his senior year and might have helped him in the NFL.

Good stuff. I'm in the middle of reading Chad's book right now. If you haven't read it, it's a great read and is full of stuff like this. Highly recommended.

Walsh really does get a bad rap that he doesn't deserve. At a minimum, he was the reason we got Sarkisian, that alone should be enough to overcome any complaints.



Here are some other key points:

1-Led BYU to victory over Notre Dame in South Bend when Notre Dame was still Notre Dame.

2-Top 10 and Top 20 rankings in 1994, 10 win season (those seem to be a benchmark for greatness these days).

3-BYU record for passing yards in a game, 619.

4-Delivered a perfect pass that was dropped in the end zone against highly ranked Ohio State. A two point coversion after that and we win, one point and we tie.



Walsh's real problem is that he bombed out in the NFL. After he came back from injury in the Fresno game in 1993 to throw for over 400 yards in just over a half all the controversy about him starting was gone. We all supported him and liked him. Then his draft stock fell and he didn't even make the team. That was our last and final impression, and sadly that is how he is remembered. He deserves better.

We would have never gotten Sark then. I have no problems that he left early.

This is the first thing that jumped out at me. The second sentence put to bet the lie that there was friction between Chad and Bronco (the who thing about Chad getting ticked and offended by Bronco concerning a coaching postion).

When Chad spoke to legacy and cougar club members in the morning chalktalk the day of the OU game last year, he said, in what is now becoming quintessential Chad: "Are any of you afraid of OU? If you are, you shouldnt be. This team has the opportunity to do something very special this year." (And yes he did seem to be caught up in the hopes alot of us had--I wont even say it.) He talked about their speed and recruit status and about our discipline, team-approach, and coaching. He was right on!

Chad exuded so much confidence, it was astonishing! It was awesome!

With the win, the Texas stadium and Chad's speech, truly one of my favorite Cougar game-day experiences ever.
