Sark and UW Players' Perspective on the Honor Code

Methinks these comments speak volumes about Sark. Asked about the Honor Code, he says, "I'm not a big shaver."



Read: I don't want to make a deal about the Honor Code. I want to play football.



When he says he was there to play football and get a degree, I totally buy it from the things he's said and how he maintained himself while at BYU. No issues, no problems, no worries.

I think that its cool that there are some players at UW who believe that they can handle the honor code, it brings me to a respect of those players

I thought this comment on the story was particularly ridiculous:

One of the hot-button topics in Utah these days is how the Mendenhall regime at BYU is handling the honor code. Coach Mendenhall is a hardcore true-believer who takes the code VERY seriously. In the past, Crowton and even LaVell Edwards believed in a double-standard for football players. Their philosophy was they could help more young men who need it if they took in some kids they knew were going to have problems, and helped them through it with a little slack. The new regime has a zero-tolerance philosophy. There is serious and animated debate in Utah about which side is right. I just think we can all agree that both sides suck. It'll be impressive if they can maintain a competitive DI program while enforcing the letter of the law with the honor code.

let's see...how many 10 win season and top 25 finishes have we had with Bronco as the coach? Not to mention that his recruiting classes continue to get better each year. Oh, and one more thing, we've now beaten your precious huskies twice while enforcing the letter of the law

I actually agree with everything that comment says up until at the end when he says implies that we won't be able to maintain a good program. The rest was fairly accurate.

As a BYU alum, I am glad that the football program has become a beacon of what the school stands for instead of a mixed-message like it was since the early 80s through Crowton. Makes me even prouder to wear the blue.

Why do you think Locker was repeatedly quoted as saying he shouldn't have been penalized for the infamous football toss? He's not used to living the letter of the law and was shocked that a double standard didn't apply to him.

Has the honor code changed this much since I went there? I don't recall any gun lingo in our version of the HC.

One of BYU's rules is no guns on campus, regardless of if you are a CCP holder or not. It can even be a real pain to keep guns in your residence unless you own your own home.

Bronc isn't zero tolerance. Strict, but not Zero. He will give, and has given players slack, but he will not just turn his head and let them go. He redirects and expects reform and won't let them go on and on, negatively influencing others and sending a poor message about BYU. Above all he expects his players (LDS members and nonmembers) to be good emissaries of what BYU stands for.

Yes me too, it's one of those rules that I just do not understand at all. If you're going to legally carry at BYU make sure it's deep concealed. You'd think they'd want people to take care of themselves and their families...
