3rd down efficiency - need to improve

BYU was 5-for-16 on third down - paltry efficiency compared to previous years. On the other hand, neither quarterback threw an interception.



It appears that the communication/recognition of defenses, timing, execution between the receivers and quarterbacks is still in the infancy stage and several times these groups appeared out of sync. With the Husky blitzes being so frequent, the WR didn't provide fast enough adjustment for passes to be dumped to them. As a result, couple of near picks almost happened on missed timing on routes.



What do you think Doman will do for AF to improve the communication between the receivers and quarterbacks considering our TE youth and use of 2 QBs?

I know our 3rd down efficiency was great last year, but what was our efficiency in that first game against OK?

We were 8 for 17 (47%) on third down conversions vs OK (they were 2 for 11). We obviously did worse vs Wash, 5 for 16 (31%) but I think we'll improve tremendously as we settle in.

I expect us to be around 45% for the season this year, which will be good all things considered. 50% or above might be unrealistic this year. But we do need to improve upon 5 for 16.

2008: UNI 7-10 (70%); UW 12-14 (85.7%)

2007: AZ 7-15 (46.7%); UCLA 6-16 (46.7%)

2006: AZ 3-12 (25%); Tulsa 8-13 (61.5%)

2005: BC 4-16 (25%); EIU 7-16 (42.9%)

This a product of a young offense and I expect it to improve over the season. We all got spoiled with expecting to pick up 3rd and 15 as Max hall would hit pitta over the middle.
