*EXCLUSIVE* content: A Tour of BYU's new HD broadcast TRUCK

So a photographer I am not. And in my defense, All I had was my iphone camera with me which apparently doesn't do low-light very well.



But I DID happen to get an informal tour of BYU's new broadcasting truck and I DID happen to take a few pictures. So In case you want to know what a few million will get you in the latest broadcast technology. this post is for you:



I'm going to edit these, and put captions on them so stay tuned.

Well, it's certainly long enough. I like the Navy blue. I'd hate to think what the insurance premiums on this baby would be. Also, there are two sets of stairs into the interior one right behind this one. but this is the side I went in.

This is the back-side. Not sure if you can tell by this, but these compartments fold out an extra 4-6 feet or so making the usable interior space MUCH greater. So keep in mind that the spaces of all of the interior pictures are capable of folding to about 3/4 their size when the truck needs to move.

BYU logo on the wall of the main room. There are about 3 rows of desks and computer chairs all facing a wall of monitors.

aside from the principal main room that had the BYU broadcasting logo on it, there were multiple other 'rooms' Can't say I know what any one of them were for. This is immediately to the right of the door. The 'sound booth' is immediately to the left and straight (see below)

This was the second biggest editing 'room' and sits at the very back of the truck after walking through the BYU logo room. This second largest room had 6 seats in it I believe. The largest room probably had room for 10-15 if you needed to pack them in.

Not a lot on TV at the moment, but I hope you get the scope for just how many monitors this thing had in it. i didn't get a picture of the far left corner (near the front) where they have their own data center competely fit out with Cisco Switches, rack mounted servers, and a dedicated cooling unit for all the heat it would be putting out.

This is awesome! I can't wait to see HD sports on BYU tv.

These two picture were taken from the biggest room, where you can see the 3 rows of desks facing the wall of monitors. You can see the door to the right. If you go through that door and turn left, you arrive at the picture at the bottom.

If I were to guess I'd say this was the sound mixing 'room'. If you were to step forward here and face right, you'd be staring at the data center of the truck.

All in all, I think this truck might (un)comfortably sit as many as 25-30 people. I So if you ever wanted to know what some of BYU's broadcasting and editing capabilities are going forward, this truck is the envy of the west.

Well, color me disappointed. I thought this was some fancy schmancy HD truck, but look how blurry the screens are! ;)

The truck is basically like Chuck Norris. He doesn't get cable. Cable gets HIM.

This thing just might be the beginning of Skynet :bug:

I hope byutv does a good job of promoting when games will be on. Like promos for upcoming events. For example I read on the internet that the woman soccer game is on tv Thursday otherwise I would have had no idea.

I get a number of emails from BYU. It is not easy to get the schedule. I think Bronco's press conference was on Tue. and I missed it.



How about putting the sports tv schedule on this site?

well after throwing BYU's patronage in the garbage, this is as close to game footage as mtn cameras can get.

Is there any way the new broadcast center can be used to assist BYU teams prepare with game film of opposing teams? Would it be an advantage?

Makes me miss my time working at KBYU/BYU-TV. It was a good gig as a student until my TA job began taking so much time that I had to quite with the broadcasting.
