I think we should Bench Chambers

Can you believe that he caught that 1 handed pass out of bounds. Come on, he has played football since a young kid, he knows where the sidelines are. There is no excuse for catching the ball out of bounds when you know where the sidelines are. Come on, if he had caught that in bounds it would have been all over sports center, so not only did he catch it out of bounds on purpose but he cost BYU the chance for publicity. Isn't that why we are going independent next year? Players that haven't bought into that, need to be benched. TIC :bug:  :gross:  :~( :P

That was a sweet catch - too bad out of bounds. But I was ready to rip his head off after each of his 2 fumbles. Come on, Chambers, are we REALLY going to go through this again this year?

Be careful 333... It was only one game. Don't want others to chastise you for speaking your opinion.

The ball was too far out of bounds to keep a foot in, the fact that he caught the ball one-handed is the impressive part of the play, not that he could have, or nearly caught the ball in bounds.

But yeah, the fumble-itis HAS to stop, ball security is way to high on Bronco's radar (especially for a generally young team) to allow for any of that.

Actually, if it really was just one game, I'd agree with you (and I know you were TIC). But this goes back to several games last year. Including the key early fumble in the FSU game that prevented us from matching scores with them and I think was the turning point in the game. He needs to develop better ball control.

What a stupid comment. That ball was uncatchable. But he still caught it. Not his fault that it was thrown waaay out of bounds. Did I read this right that he caught it out of bounds on purpose? And what does publicity have to do with that play? So, if he caught it in bounds (which was impossible) it would have been all over SC and somebody would have been converted because of it, right? :skeptic:

BYUfan4ever-

He was joking. TIC means tongue in cheek. I didn't know what TIC meant until we had a special thread on it.

333-

I'm in agreement with you. I get extremely nervous when he's returning punts/kicks. He has so much potential...

I like posts that expose others' absolute lack of ability to detect sarcasm. More insightful than the actual post.

Or the fumble on the one yard line in the ou game. But you have to keep in mind the positive he provides WAY outweighs the negative (some ball security issues). we still won that ou game as well as the uw game. we would not have won the utah game last year without him. NO WAY. so yes, he has some ball security issues, but overall we are lucky to have his talents and he has contributed greatly to the team's success and will continue to do so. He has done a great job. I wouldn't bench him. In fact I think its stupid to even say something like that out loud.

Let the record show, Chambers only fumbled once. During, the second "fumble" on the punt return, the replay clearly showed that not only was the ball grounded before he lost control but so was his knee. The Chambers haters just seem to revel in any chance to pile on the kid. He has made many a clutch play for BYU and not once yet has been the single reason for a loss though it could be argued he was the single reason we won the Yewtah game last year.

Yes, he occasionally makes a questionable decision and sometimes I hold my breath when he's waiting on a punt, but the fact of the matter is, that as yet, none of his mistakes have affected the W/L column and on more the one occasion he has contributed to the sealing of a W for the Cougars.

But nothing I say is going to convince any of the haters. They've clearly made up their mind about certain players from their first impressions of them and refuse to accept new evidence that contradicts their negative view. Just look at the flack that players like Justin Robinson and Mitch Payne took their whole career.

TIC TIC TIC TIC TIC. Lighten up, I was illustrating absurdity by being absurd to all the fans that want wholsale changes in the line up due to a couple mistakes during a game.

No. 4 had better get his act together because his mama is going to watching him at the game on the 18th. (Linette, thank you, thank you, thank you for setting up the bus trip and getting the tickets in a group to the game. My boy and I are sooooo pumped for the game.)

You see, his mama is a Southern mama and will beat his bum if he does anything to embarrass her, like fumbling the ball or catching uncatchable out-of-bound balls. Nothing that Bronco can do to him will compare to what mama can do. :bug: :bug:

Linette, can't wait to see you in Kissimmee on the 18th. I also look forward to the chance to see your son also.

I chose to not mention the OU fumble since we won the game. So in the grand scheme of things, the FSU fumble was more damaging.

For the Record, I love Chambers. He is one of my favorite players. He seems very respectful when internviewed (other then the interview he gave as a freshman which doesn't seem to hold up to the others which makes me question the validity of the quotes in the first interview). This entire thread is a TIC, has nothing to do with my personal feelings about Chambers.

Yes, the fumble against FSU hurt as it could have gone in for a score and changed the rythymn of the game but it was in FSU territory and it didn't matter anyway because our defenese couldn't stop them all game long. Scotty Johnson being hurt that game is the primary reason we lost that game. The field condition was secondary as our DL couldn't get a decent pass rush against a strong FSU OL.

That's funny - I haven't run up against any "chambers haters" anywhere. i think the kid has talent out the wazzoo but needs to do a better job holding onto the ball. Pointing out an area of a kid's game that they need to improve on doesn't make me a "hater".

Where have you been? There have been tons of people calling for his head the past two years on this very site. They make up phantom drops and fumbles that never happened and refuse to acknowledge the good things he's done for the team.

Anyone who's bagging on Chambers, especially for the OU fumble, needs to get their head checked and go to several football clinics to learn about the sport. Chambers is a big time asset on the field and we depend on him a lot more than the numbers show.

TIC - (per Wikipedia): Tongue-in-cheek is the action of poking one's cheek with the tongue inside the mouth. The phrase can be used as a figure of speech to imply a statement or other production is intended ironically and not to be taken at face value. The facial expression typically indicates that one is joking or making a mental effort. In the past, it might also indicate contempt but that is no longer common. By 1842 the phrase had acquired its contemporary meaning similar to "take what I am saying with a grain of salt”, indicating that a statement was not meant to be taken seriously. Early users of the phrase include Sir Walter Scott in his 1828 The Fair Maid of Perth. In the era of instant messaging the smiley is used to connote the same expression.
