Sounds like a lot more than rumors at this point. Good on them if they have the cojones to follow through with this.



Assuming it happens, I'd rather see the award go unawarded for 2005 than to have it go to Vince Young, sure Young should have won it that year since Bush had clusterf$@!Dked his way (and USC's way) out of eligibility, but Bush has already denied Young of the pleasure of having his day in NYC and giving it to Young now wouldn't repair that damage anyway, leaving the award vacant now sends a much stronger and more lasting message for the future.

I agree that since Bush didn't play by the rules, he should be ineligible to keep the award, but bottom line to me was that he was the better athlete of the two on the basis of comparison of ability. That said, while just because of the rules that weren't followed, Vince Young should have received the trophy, still, that was by default and not because he was the better athlete, so because of that I'd rather see it not awarded, not because Bush stold the day away from Young.

If Vince Young gets it, then Steve Young needs to get his. Mike Rozier, the Nebraska running back, who won the Heisman in 1983 later admitted to accepting money. That is the problem with taking the Heisman away and giving it to another person. You have to then go back and do it for everyone else. I agree, vacate it.

Agreed, you do open a can of worms by making a move like this. On the one hand, it needs to be done because cheaters need to be taught a lesson, on the other hand taking Bush's Heisman away ensures that other former players will be much less likely to come forward about past infractions (not that that's how Bush's ineligibility came about, but still). In the end I think you have to take the award away from bush, leave it vacant, and not give it to Vince Young, just in case 20 years from now, some Texas booster on his death bed comes clean about all the cash he gave to Young and how he made sure he never got caught.
