BYU should be ranked

Considering, Oregon State, Cincinnati, North Carolina and Pittsburgh all lost, and considering LSU stunk it up, as did Florida and Oklahoma--BYU should make it into the top 25.



Florida and OU should drop about ten spots each, though they won't (Florida is special, whether they play good, bad or mediocre, they're special even when they lose)....oh wait, I forgot, ND won, so they'll automatically jump over everybody else be a top 15 team.

I really dont' mind not being ranked this season. We already have a pretty large target on our backs and our conference road schedule is brutal. If we're 3-2 after the 1st 5 games, I'll be content. 4-1 and I'll be happy.



Utah State, Utah and TCU are foaming at the mouths to play us (USU is probably always foaming at the mouth, but that's likely more a result of their inbreeding) FSU is going to be up for us and playing at their house will not be pretty. I wouldn't mind hovering around 26-27 until we get towards the end of our season. I would like to blow some teams out so we can see Travis Uale and Jray at the safety position and more minutes for Buckner at corner.



Do any of us really believe that this team is talented or experienced enough for a BCS game this year? If not, is there much difference between #18 and #27 right now?



Our recruiting is pretty much wrapped up for 2010-11 so we dont' really need to impress the socks off of anyone (Joe Sampson is in the bag; he's just sitting out this fall to be ready for spring ball with us and to be honest, I could sleep just fine without Harvey Langi; I've spoke to a few people that honestly think that he's kind of a stiff runner that won' be very elusive at the next level; in fact in two seperate occasions with 2 different people, they suggested that he should play reciever or tight end...which kind of caught me off guard)

BYU is close enough in the coaches poll to possibly be ranked, not in the AP poll though.

You would be happy with 3-2? really? Who besides FSU would you be okay with losing to? Nevada, Air Force, or Utah State?

I actually thought 3-2 was likely because I wasn't sure we would beat UW, but now that we have I think we will be 4-1 after the first 5, possibly even 5-0. We will no more about how good FSU is when they play OU this next week. Then again, maybe not, OU had trouble with Utah State.

I said i'd be content with 3-2 and happy with 4-1. I still see a very young BYU team that has not shown how they'll play on the road and while I'm happy with the performance yesterday, the 1st game of the season can be a real smokescreen, especially when you're playing at home.



Aside from FSU, we should be favored in every game and I expect us to beat AFA, Nevada and Utah State; I just don't think it'll be the end of the world if we lose one of those, particularly because we are playing so many young guys and eventually we might lose the turnover battle in one of those games. I wont' be happy about losing to any of those 3 teams, but after the 1st five games are over, if we're 3-2; I won't be terribly upset. I'll still be sold on the future of this team. As young as this team is, and as successful as Bronco has been the last 4 years, I think I could stomach a mulligan.



As for FSU, I personally don't think we stand a chance of winning; I would just like to give them a game and hope for some luck.

That makes sense, I don't think it would be the end of the world for this team either. If I had to pick a loss I would want it to be Nevada. Because losing to Utah State would just be sad and Air Force is a conference game.

I expect byu to remain unranked and I'm happy with that. Keep them under the radar and keep the pressure off for right now. Now if they start 3-0 they'll likely start getting some attention

Actually I think of the 4 upcoming games, Nevada will be the easiest. It's at home and we matchup very well with them.



Utah State will be fired up and prepared for us. I would hate to lose to them but I think they'll pull out all stops for us at their place; particularly with Riley as our starting QB.

One of the great things about college football, is every week is a different game, and often different teams show up to play, or fail to show up. FSU is no slouch, but how can you tell how good when playing against punk teams.



I've held the belief for awhile that FSU will be Heaps' coming out party, that FSU will not allow Nelson to run, and he isn't the passer Nelson is, that BYU will be behind early in that game and that our only chance is to let Heaps start throwing bullets. We may not win that game, but I expect Heaps to emerge, have a great showing, throw for 300 plus yards, and keep the game respectable. After that game, Heaps will be the starter and Nelson will be used in spot duty, special situations, wildcat formations, or goal line situations where we need a run pass option. Heaps is too good to keep off the field, and once he gets acclimated to the college game, and receivers start catching his darts, he's going to be very, very good.

Ranked? Not yet but they will get votes. Not enough teams will move out to make room. Win a good game next week and we could just make it. Beat FSU and top 15.

And if BYU starts 3-0, I fully expect the Cougs to be 15 or better....

We had a better win then most of the top 25. Consider where we were last year. Maybe Jacksonville St should be ranked for beating SEC's Miss

You're right. OU had a quality win over Utah State to deserve its top 10 ranking.



Beginning of season rankings are nothing but hype.

Who has anyone beaten to be ranked? I have always hated preseason polls...I think that may be the one the BCS has right. Their poll does not start preseason but rather after teams have proven it on the field.

I do think it would be great for National attention to have us ranked top 25 when going against a 15th or so ranked Florida State team. I'll tell you what though, that Utah State game is looking like more and more of a trap game, they looked pretty good against Oklahoma...

I think we should be around 24 or 25, but about it. The fact we came in at about #28 does not bother me. We just beat a team that went 5-7 last year at our own place. We did what we were supposed to do. If we can go to AFA and win on the road with the 2 QB system still working away from LES, then let's talk rankings.

My preseason prediction for BYU was 10-2. Which would have been about a #15 ranking. And that's still right about where I think BYU should be ranked, with Utah #16, TCU #2, and Boise State #1. But that's just my opinion.

Agreed. In a weekend when NINE of the top 25 played 1-AA teams, ten if you include recently "promoted" Western Kentucky (and 11 if you include UNLV :P ) there's no reason teams who actually get wins against D-1 schools shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt over teams who aren't even playing schools in their own division.

But good luck with that though. I mean, if the royalty schools don't stay at the top of the polls, how else will they be able to absorb the bad losses and still stay within reach of those big bowl payouts???

oh yeah, 12 when you include New Mexico. I forgot Oregon was ranked. :roll:

I love the Cougars but not going to get very excited about rankings until after Florida St.Win that game and they will move right up the polls. Hope someone brings a little shovel(not in thier carryon) to bring home a piece of that FSU turf.
