With Harvey this game is never in question. It would have even helped open up the passing game.

I miss Tonga, the guy who punched many a hole through the D-line for Unga to run through.

It's not just that we don't have Unga, we don't have a fullback like Tonga either.

JJ had a couple of nice runs but what really impressed me on those runs was the sweet gap the offensive line gave him. Harvey often made his yardage on his own or squeaked through the smallest gap but those hogs up front gave JJ a couple of lanes I could have made it through. That's sweet and I hope they keep it up. I was really impressed with our offensive line...they were great!!!

Unga is gone. JJ is the present and the future. He runs a lot like Luke Staley, fast, quick, and shifty, though he's not that amazing yet.

13 carries for 68 yards, 4 receptions for 83 yards and a TD.

There really is a big hole behind DiLuigi though. Kariya doesn't deserve carries anymore though.

8 carries for 19 yards. 1 reception for 0 yards.

Give every power running snap to Quezada.

0 carries? 1 reception for a 9 yard touchdown.

I gotta call you on this one. JJ is nothing like Luke Staley. Luke was a downhill runner with very few moves but world-class speed for his size. JJ is a scatback with a low center of gravity and great feet, but he's not a burner. He's small enough to get lost in the backfield, which helps him make moves and find a hole. I see very few similarities between those two aside from their position and the team they play for. JJ is more like Reno Mahe than anyone else that has played for BYU the last 10 years.

I also like Kariya as a guy that can give the defense a different look. He's flawless in picking up the blitz on passing downs and deserves the snaps he gets.Quezada would get more opportunities if he knew his assignments in the passing game, but Bronco and crew dont' want to get their quarterbacks blown up with missed blocks.

You're probably right, I didn't see Staley play. You were also right about Locker/Ponder this year, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I love JJ's play though currently, he's our current leading rusher and receiver, much like Fall camp.

As for Kariya, he's great on passing downs, but how many times did they feed him the rock on 3rd and 1 only to see him get stuffed at the line of scrimmage? Once they started bouncing those outside to DiLuigi, he was getting 5 yards on 3rd and 1. Kariya can be FB full-time as far as I'm concerned.

Next game, let's see what Juice can do on 3rd-and-1 running plays. We need some blue-zone power on this team badly.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bronco made a big mistake when he chose not to re-recruit former BYU commit and current yewt Asiata out of JC.

Probably the same thing with Star Loletui (Utah) and Matangi Tonga (Houston).

Matangi is a partier that refuses to go to class; something that doesn't matter in Conference USA. If you happen have him or Manase as facebook friends, you'll see that Matangi has chosen a different path. (his talent though would undoubtedly have been nice at DT; and would have helped make the decision to redshirt Rowley and Tuiloma easier)

Asiata on the other hand makes sense, but it would have been academic if Harvey had managed to keep it in his pants. I dont' think there's been a game since Harvey took over at rb that having Asiata would have changed the outcome. We still lose to TCU both times, FSU last year, Utah 2 years ago (in fact the biggest problem we had in that loss, was that Anae didn't hand Harvey the ball enough; he was killing them in the 1st half and in the 2nd we went away from the run and Max lost his mind trying to get back into the game.... thus the 5 interceptions)

Also if I understand right (it's late) assuming he actually stayed injury free in his career, Asiata wouldn't have eligibility left this season. He'd have graduated last year. Regardless of having Harvey, word is that BYU was Asiatas first choice and we just didnt' pursue him.

Remember though that Asiata is on his 47th year at Utah, and his grandchildren were there to watch him play on Thursday night. Given the love we have gotten from the NCAA, there is no way Asiata is playing this year for us. His career would be over.

I watched Luke Staley play and BYU has not had anyone like him before or since. He was the type of player that every time he was handed the ball, the entire crowd would hold their collective breath because it could go the distance. Unless Quezada is that type of player, we still don't have anything like him.
