Are these teams gonna stick to their guns on BYU scheduling?

Here are the MWC teams we have so far which have come out and said - or had coaches in their programs say - they will not schedule BYU:



TCU

Wyoming

SDSU



possibly more to come. Do you think these teams will actually put their money where their mouths are? (actually - they'll have much less money to put to their mouths if they don't play BYU), or do they all give in?

I think there were people on this board who never wanted to schedule Utah again just one short month ago. now they're counting on them. Those teams will change their tune

We tell TCU we don't need to schedule them, we'll just play Texas and Texas Tech instead.



Who wants to go to Laramie anyway? Eventually that AD and coach will be gone, so they'll change their tune soon enough anyway. It will be a nice 2 for 1 setup in the near future for us.



SDSU's coach won't be there for long, so it doesn't really matter what he says. Plus, if the AD says we need to fill the stadium and you will play BYU, what is he gonna do about that? Oh, and BYU will just play USC and/or UCLA instead.



The MWC teams still just don't get it. BYU doesn't need you. You needed BYU, and you wouldn't get out of your own way to keep them. Why would BYU stay when the only voting partner that they had in the conference is gone? Even if they talked Boise St into being on their side, the votes would still be 7-2 against.



I will come clean and say that until very recently I was against going independent, but with the change in the landscape over the summer, this really was the best that BYU could do to better themselves.

I hope a few of these teams change their tune sooner rather than later. Specifically, TCU. AFA as well.



TCU boggles me. And bothers me, really. They've spent the last few years putting our helmets on their practice dummies, talking us up as rivals. Now they don't want to play us? At exactly the point where they were going to have to start rebuilding and we had a chance to beat them? (Okay, they probably like that last part. But still.)



It makes no sense. If you hate a team, I guess its easier to not play them and not grant them the SOS that your team would afford. But wouldn't it be more fun just to schedule them and beat them, thus ruining their season? Especially if you consider them a rival of sorts? (Even my copy of NCAA Football 11 for XBox calls BYU and TCU rivals!)



While we're on the topic, can someone explain to me what's going to happen with the 4-year BSU series we had planned? Is that still on the books? That would be nice to have in the coming years.

BSU is still on as OOC games. Comcast should be upset that they will not get BYU games if we were to visit these teams. I am okay not playing them since they are small media teams. TCU can't even sell out their game tomorrow with OSU and on ESPN. ESPN won't want us doing this game.

Order of stupidity:



1. Fans

2. Coaches

3. AD's

4. School Presidents



Fortunately the AD's and School Presidents are much lower on the moron scale, so rational and non-emotional people will be making the decisions.



It all comes down to money and that will be the driving force.

Hawaii had said they were never going to schedule us again when we left them behind in the WAC so that shows us that feelings smooth out over time. Those teams feel jilted and a bit jealous that we could take control of our destiny in going independent. Their reactions are what would be expected, especially for a team like Wyoming that loved to hate us and have been engaged in games (75) with us for a decade short of a century (1922). Besides Utah/USU, there is no other team close to having played us as many games. That's a lot of history and it takes time to overcome bitter feelings. You have to remember that there is nothing positive that comes to any MWC team with BYU's announced departure. It's not natural that anyone jilted is going to just turn the other cheek.



I will say that SDSU's reaction was the most surprising to me because Rocky Long is on their staff and if there is anyone that should understand the situation it is he who up and left his post as head coach of NM to only reappear at another MWC team scheming to beat his old team and the kids he recruited. That's not worse? Apparently he has no influence over the HC who would come out so negatively when he doesn't even have but a couple of years of history with BYU. Especially in a situation where they would benefit financially playing BYU probably more than anyone else they could schedule.



TCU has long disrespected us going back to the game when Beck was our starter and the TCU captains refused to shake hands with BYU in the pregame ceremony. If they were classless then, why would we expect any change since? I liked the concept of playing TCU soley on a competitive basis, but I've never seen much come out of their campus that developed in me any significant respect for their program.



The team I haven't heard a peep from is Air Force, about the only team I really had respect for in this conference.

We don't need those teams right now, and eventually they'll calm down and want to sell out their stadiums for a game and come a calling.



On thing to consider is that some of the WCC has football and has some decent teams for their affiliation, it's just a step down. I wouldn't be upset in the least to have BYU schedule a San Diego to come to our place, in a year where we'd play 4-5 other top 30 teams.



I have a feeling the last 10 years that there have been a few seasons where the Torrerros would have beaten SDSU in football.



While there are some cons to playing Hawaii, there's the 13th game exception when you play at Hawaii. We know that our talent is going to be out of sight in the future and that game at Hawaii allows us some scheduling freedom, even if it's just to add a patsy to our home schedule.

These teams will play us. What the coaches say is irrelevent. Patterson will play where his AD tells him to. Most of them are just blathering what their fans want to hear. What are they supposed to say when some stupid sports writer asks them if they will play BYU in the future? If ESPN and BYU go to Wyoming, CSU, UNLV, or any other MWC team and offer $750,000 - $1,000,000 to play BYU, the AD will happily sign it. The fans may say they don't want it, but guaranteed they will fill up that stadium when BYU makes the return trip. It is a win/win and the ADs know it.
