Masoli, Yes; Kaveinga, No???

Someone smarter than me please explain this. I am hoping for some reasonable explanation. I know the two are slightly different situations, but does this look like the egregious double standard that it seems.

Because it is an egregious double standard, and they gave it to a punk who couldn't obey the law so he got kicked out and transferred to avoid punishment

Someone smarter than me explained it elsewhere on this board as follows. Masoli apparently already graduated with a bachelor's. NCAA has a loophole that says one-year "ban" from playing can be bypassed if you transferred from one organization to another to do grad work offered at the new school that wasn't offered at the old school. His wikipedia page seems to back this up as well.

The NCAA should have taken a different stance on this one, but the loophole is there. Should have punished him for breaking the law. He didn't really ever get punished.



I can actually understand why Kaveinga wasn't given a waiver. He left his old team before the end of last season (wasn't he seen at the BYU practices during the Las Vegas Bowl prep?). I also think that if he had already used his red-shirt, he would have been granted the waiver.
