The MWC already turning on BYU

After a vigorous Facebook poll, the BYU/UW game was made the MWC "Game of the Week."



The first question they asked their expert? "What are the keys to Washington winning this game?" They never asked what BYU's keys to winning were.

I would love nothing more than for BYU to win every game-of-the-week poll this season. Just to spite them.

Sour grapes; it was inevitable. Time to move on and schedule a better (collective) set of competition as an independent.

But Gary, I thought BYU and TCU were rivals?

TCU can do what it wants, and I don;t care. We have left them in the dust 2x now, so I understand why they might be upset with BYU. BYU will do what is best for itself, and it TCU feels not scheduling BYU is best for them, so be it. Bigger fish to fry now.

From a lot of the articles you would think WA is the team that has won at least 10 games a season since 2006 and BYU was the one that has won only 14 games since 2006 (BYU has actually won 43 games since then).

I find the TCU situation very strange. TCU and BYU have been the two dominant teams of the MWC since TCU joined. Utah had one good season. And even though TCU lost to both Utah and BYU in 2006 and 2007 and had the heartbreaking loss to Utah in 2008, Patterson has always had his animosity geared towards BYU.



I thought it was just the angst after the 2006, when Beck came and smacked down the Frogs (who were top 15 at the time). But it has continued. The TCU tackling dummy still had a BYU helmet in 2009.



Now Gary Patterson is an inactive member (he joined when he married his first wife). He has given tickets to missionaries and the Young Men in the Fort Worth area wards.



On the abstract level, it makes a lot of sense for TCU to play BYU on a regular basis. But TCU folks (and especially Patterson) are taking the BYU departure very poorly. They did not mind Utah leaving and there was little to no anger about it. But it is as if BYU stole TCU's dog and car and good watch.......

All that tells me is that BYU is the favorite in this game. Similar to this morning on College Football Live, the commentators talked about UW's star players quite a bit, commenting that "these guys will all have to play a great game for them to have a chance at winning this game."

For many years the MWC has been relevant on a national scale only as far as BYU made it so. He is losing his national meal ticket, and is worried about being relevant anymore. If Utah leaves, that is only a lately good team. Once BYU leaves, they have nothing left.

Irritating because I was really looking forward to ripping apart TCU after the last two years (plus, most likely this next one) they put us through. I figured 2011 onward, we'd have their number.



This could be spun as cowardice on TCU's part, but I'll refrain.

Coaches don't make the decisions, their bosses do. Granted coaches can have a lot of input but they don't look a the numbers. SDSU's coach said similar comments about BYU but I doubt they never play BYU again. BYU just brings too much money to be ignored.



Patterson is just annoyed by the fact that no matter what his teams do on the field they will always be considered a mid-major. In Texas they are a small fish in a big pond. The Big 12 will not invite them because TCU would add zero to the conference. They are stuck and no matter what they do they cannot improve their situation. Obviously BYU isn't stuck and Patterson is frustrated by that.

Independence was a way for BYU to get some media attention. The scary thing is that nobody seems at all concerned with a game that is two days away. This "Independence" distraction was really bad timing if you ask me. It has made all of your heads grow a couple of sizes larger than they already are. Pride cometh before the Fall. BYU has a history of big hype, and then a really big letdown. If I were you I'd be praying for history to not repeat itself.

Go win a game east of the Mountain time zone then let's talk. Remember Georgia? Yeah, you really showed them there. And I love how you know the mentality of BYU and how the coaches have handled the players. Dude, the fans got carried away, but he coaches did not let the team lose focus. They are pretty good at what they do, after all.



By the way, when will Boise play more than 2 hard games a year? And 2 is a record for you softies, usually it is just 1. Go play 4-5, then let's talk about falling flat.

Show me what sucks about BSU's history. The fans didn't play those games I mentioned, the players did, right? SO they obviously weren't very well prepared. I remember last year how you were all complaining after the TCU game that the players lost their focus.

You're saying that BYU only makes headlines for off the field stuff, big wins and big losses....umm...what else is there? What team in the country doesn't fit that criteria? Your Broncos certainly fit that criteria perfectly. When the Broncos beat San Jose State it doesn't make any headlines any more then when BYU beats UNLV.

I can focus on this UW game all I want and it won't make any difference in the outcome. You see I'm not on the team. I'm not a coach for the team. The fans can talk and focus on whatever they want and it doesn't mean squat. The team is focused on UW that much as shown by interviews with Bronco and our players this week.

BYU has a history of big hype, and then a really big letdown. If I were you I'd be praying for history to not repeat itself.

The vast majority of media outlets around the country are picking UW to win this one. Vegas is picking UW to win this one. UW has the Heisman Trophy prospect and the stud running back, not BYU. The way I see it UW is the team that is getting all the hype for this game, not BYU. Independence is a huge topic and it's a big deal but nowhere is anybody saying "Since BYU declared independence they are going to beat UW this week."
