Shout out to Mars!!

Thanks Mars (and Arnold Frieberg and whoever did the photoshopping) for the great image of BYU declaring their independence on 9/31/2010. Perhaps the new site logo should have just been Mars' avatar.



That picture is awesome in context of what has happened the last couple of days.

Maybe it's just me but I see the image of Capt. Moroni with a huge Y on his title of liberty it brings to mind BYU declaring their independence. I thought that was pretty cool image and it brought to mind a lot of entertaining parallels between Capt. Moroni's history and BYU's new status.



I'm not the only one who sees Capt. Moroni when I look at your avatar, right?

Summary



Amalickiah (the Hair) was a wicked Nephite who wanted to be king, and he convinced many people to support him. When Moroni (Tom Holmoe or Cecil, take your pick), chief commander of the Nephite armies, learned of this, he became angry; he knew that the people were in danger of losing their freedom. He tore his coat, wrote a message of freedom on it, and raised it as a flag he called the title of liberty. Moroni prayed for the blessing of freedom in the land. He then went forth, waving the title of liberty and calling on the Nephites to join him in protecting their freedom. Amalickiah and his followers fled to join the Lamanites (the WAC). He and a few others escaped, but Moroni captured the remainder (BYU always captures the attention of the sports world, as we all know). Most of the captured persons then promised to defend freedom (this is yet to be seen).



Cheesy sure, but I thought it was a funny parallel. Seriously, doesn't anyone else see Mars' Avatar and know what I'm talking about? Am I going delirious in anticipation of Sat. 7pm EST!!!!!???????

Ah yes, it is indeed Captain Moroni holding the BYU Title of Liberty.

I used to have a huge version of this posted on CougarBlue, but they wiped their systems last year, and unfortunately I lost the one saved on my personal computer. :~(
