Texas, USC, Miami all follow suit creating a semi indy super conference/alliance in football.



I would not go so far as to say this has gained any real traction but the seed has been planted and BYU may have just started a change that will revolutionize college football.....again.

You bet that every AD in the country is asking themselves how much ESPN would pay for them if BYU got an 8 year deal out of ESPN. Doesn't mean they pull the trigger but I agree that the seed has been planted and BYU's press conference might have been the front row seats of the end of conference affiliation and the beginning of network affiliation.

So the whole Texas football program is worth a mind boggling $119. I can understand why they wouldn't want to go independent.



Of course, wasn't it CBS that said only about 78,000 people showed up for the Beck rally last week. Do I see some sort of trend happening here?

I only hope the big schools "think about it" for a few years, while we build our program. If Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, USC jump into the independence pool, we will be small potatoes again.



I've often wondered what would be worse than the BCS. Now I've discovered what it is: a super conference of the 12-15 richest schools, who declare their champion the national champion, lock up the lions share of TV revenue (think 12 Notre Dame's), and everyone else becomes also-rans. Up-and-comers need not apply. In the current environment, it is certainly more likely than that BCS-leaves-the-NCAA scenario. Don't kid yourself; ESPN likes us, but there are at least a dozen schools they like a lot more.
