MWC Fans in full Meltdown Mode

Most of the comments are just filled with hate and lack of any intelligence. But a few fans actually posted some intelligent comments. It's nice to know that even in New Mexico, there are a few fans that "get it".

The one about how BYU leaving the MWC completely changed the guy's mind about Mormonism is classic. He used to "respect" BYU because of Mormonism's family values, but now, oh no, they're capable of being backstabbin' lyin' sons of biotches, I will never think Mormons are anything but deceitful liars (now that they've shown their "true colors").



Let me get this right, you live in New Mexico and this is what changes your mind about Mormons? Never mind that a good chunk of your neighbors are Mormon, a few of your kids' friends are likely Mormon, the guy that you stood behind in the check out line was Mormon, but a University leaving your team's athletic conference is where you get dialed in on Mormon culture and philosophy? This attitude is unbelieveable. Do they think that Craig Thompson gets his orders from BYU only? We all know that BYU was an equal partner with one voice in the MWC. I could understand the back stabbing if BYU was in some real position of control in the MWC and made most of the decisions unilaterally, but that is not how it was.

Want to cure yourself of ANY sadness or ill feelings about "leaving the MWC behind"? Just go hang out on mwcboard.com for about 5 minutes.



Now, the ONLY time I'll EVER cheer for a MWC team to win a game is when they are playing :utard: (except for AFA...you HAVE to cheer for them).

Of course, reading that board you also get the feeling why they hate us: some of the most idiotic, smack-talking BYU fans seem to prefer hanging out there (and other schools' fan boards).

It does not bother me too much. These people are just disappointed. I understand that. People say things on message boards they would never say face-to-face. They are lashing out trying to make themselves feel better. There were plenty of BYU fans lashing out at Utah on these same boards not too long ago.

The WAC worked this the right way mostly ... they talked to a Team about moving to their conference. No different in any way to the way the MWC talked to Boise about moving to our conference. (or PAC talked to Utah and Colorado or BigTen to Nebraska). Talking to a team, presenting them with the reasons why you are better is not underhanded or backstabbing or anything like that. That is just business.



In fact, the only really underhandedness I see in all this is by Nevada, who is trying to pull the "Oh, yeah, we SAID that 3 days ago, but we didn't really mean it, and now we're not going to do what we said we were going to do." Fresno sounds like they are being straight up and saying "Yeah, we signed it, so we'll probably have to pay up."



I don't see anywhere in this where BYU was out to destroy the MWC. I think the PAC10 MIGHT have been out to destroy the BigXII, and I think the BigTen fully intends on destroying the BigEast eventually. And clearly, Craig Thompson and the MWC were out to destroy the WAC. That's unfortunate really, because destroying something else just for the sake of destroying it is kind of sad and lame really?



Was Boise State out to destroy the WAC when they left? Was the MWC trying to destroy the WAC by inviting Boise State? I think losing BSU is at least as devastating to the WAC as losing BYU is to the MWC .... so who was being underhanded and backstabbing who here .....



I think not having BYU in the conference actually makes the MWC way more fun and exciting and balanced. The schools that are left, (with the exception of Air Force) are now all very similar in size, resources, state support, enrollment, recruiting scope, etc. That makes a fun balanced and exciting conference I think. Utah and BYU were just different.....



Now, I also think the overall image of the MWC is going to take a hit. I also worry about losing TCU ....



I think the MWC becomes more of a Basketball conference, and the BCS dream is basically shot with Utah and BYU ....."

Yeah, I have to admit I was really chapped when Utah left. I felt like the MWC was a combined struggle, and I felt like they abandoned the MWC. I guess now you could say I have the "Don't hate the player, hate the game" attitude.



It sucks that we have a college football system that makes you turn you back on long time rivals. But by this point in time everyone has done it. BC, VT, Miami, Louisville, Cincinnati, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Texas, A&M, Tech, Baylor, Arkansas, Air Force, BYU, CSU, New Mexico, SDSU, TCU, UNLV, Wyoming, UTEP, SMU, Rice, Tulsa, USF, Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada have all bailed on their conference in the last 15 years. That is nearly 1/4 of all FBS schools! It is the sad reality of college football.



The MWC, in particular, can't be too bitter about schools leaving since its origin is a conference split.

WOW - oh the stupidity. Reading through their posts they think we are the ones that destroyed the WAC when it was actually HAIR Thompson's fault. I believe we still have a deal with the WAC but they still blame it on us. They also say how much better a basketball conference the MWC is how we're going to suffer in the WCC. Do they not realize that both Utah and BYU are gone now which will severely cripple their conference RPI?? Bunch of bitter Morons

The MWC fans are the worst. (Except Air Force fans, they are pure class from my experience) I mingle with UNLV fans and have a terrible experience then a few months later I mingle with Oklahoma fans and it's the complete opposite. The contrast between the 2 was dramatic. I leave the Thomas and Mack Center after a loss scared for my life, people getting in my face screaming F-BYU!! Then I leave Cowboys Stadium getting high fives, people shaking my hand, telling me what a good game it was and that was after we beat them!



Screw UNLV.

Screw Wyoming.

Screw New Mexico.

Screw TCU.

Screw SDSU.

Screw Utah.



CSU gets a pass as I have never had any bad first hand experiences with them.



Air Force gets a pass as I have only had positive experiences with them.



MWC fans can crap their pants for all I care. They are just mad that they won't be carried by big brother anymore. They are just mad that now they will sell out zero games. I say good riddance.

I hope the MTN folds. I hope the MWC gets whats been coming to them for a long time.

They won't be so "glad" after their schools start feeling the revenue pinch. BYU generated a significant portion of revenue for them. Probably the only time their stadiums ever actually filled to capacity was when BYU rolled in. Not to mention the loss in revenue when viewership of The Mtn. completely plummets and Comcast has to pull the plug. And then there's the revenue from bowl games. Sure Utah and TCU brought in a lot from their recent BCS bowl games, but BYU's bowl appearances and wins certainly added to the coffer. The Las Vegas Bowl thrived off of BYU. We were the only fan base that could fill the place, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Las Vegas bowl starts looking to move away from having to invite a MWC team. I can certainly see the Las Vegas Bowl favoring an independent BYU over a MWC team.



Can't imagine that TCU is very happy about this. They just lost their self proclaimed "rival." Sure, TCU can pick a fight with BSU, but add in the departure of Utah and who else is left in the conference for TCU to prove themselves against? TCU will likely get restless in the wake of remodeling their stadium, and with TCU fans already struggling to show up to games I can see TCU looking to bolt in the near future. With TCU gone, that leaves BSU as the sole money-maker for the conference.



They can complain all they want, but they'll miss the bottom-line benefits of BYU in the conference.

It's not just the fans. SDSU's Hoke has repeated his statement that they won't have BYU on the schedule in the future (we'll see). At least he'll be able to lose to 19-21 year olds instead of 21-23 year olds.



The Wyoming AD has also stated that he hopes BYU's sports that have been left without a conference aren't allowed to play in the MWC.



It's nice to be hated by such crummy teams and people. It just means they lost. A lot.
