Dumbest BYU article written all week?

here's a small gem for you:

"BYU players often go on two-year Mormon missions, come back and play as 24-year-olds."

If you do any basic math, it's true. 18+4+2=24. If they redshirt, they can even play as 25 year-olds.

He neglects to report that they play as 21 and 22 year olds as well, just like other college players. True that by the end, the RM is 24, but the way it is written it sounds like the player is 24 right after his mission.

WOW! SDSU is a serious craphole of a team. Lets be honest why you don't want to play them. Because they crush you year in and year out.

BTW Hoke, a 50% attrition rate from the JC ranks, and the notes down at the bottom seem to beg the question, how sparse are your practices? It seems you have an awful lot of suspended players. No wonder your team loses to D-II teams. There is no control and no accountablility (nor personal responsibility). I guess that is why you bring up maturity as an unfair advantage at BYU leading you to never want them scheduled again.

I'm am so glad we are excising boils like these from our program.

Gil Libreton of the Star Telegram had a real dumb article too. Accuses BYU of a "cowardly retreat" in the title but never explains it. It doesn't make sense considering BYU has a 4 game series scheduled with Boise State, and it is TCU fans who want to not schedule BYU.

I also love how CT acts like a puritan when it comes to college football and traditional rivalries, when he has poached both TCU and Boise State from their rivals. BSU left and said they wouldn't play Idaho any more. And BYU is in "cowardly retreat".

I love the mission argument though, because any college player could do it. I would love to see their coaches encourage players to spend two years of service away from football just so they can have the "advantage" of older players. They would never do it because they would worry about losing recruits to other schools before or after the service, and worry about the shape they would be in when they returned.

I went on that 2 year football training camp, how come I never got any offers to play D-1 ball? :angry:

People are so ignorant about the church and BYU. No wonder the brethren want more exposure.

Haha...yes, and as every returned missionary knows you always come back faster, stronger and leaner after the two year break. :roll:

Again, I love how we ONLY play 24-year-old returned missionaries. And all of our opponents only ever play 18-year-old true freshmen.

Someone needs to ask that San Diego craphole paper why Brady Hoke doesn't send his players on 2-year Peace Corps mission if it is such a huge advantage. The option is there for every program in the nation to do it, so why don;t they?

Set your jealousy of me aside for just a moment and be a bit less subjective. The writer was obviously making it sound like when most missionaries come back they are 24 years old. He also neglects the fact that many players don't serve missions.

That's not how I read it, especially given the fact that his next sentence gave a usual range for players to play which lets you view the 24 number as extending the usual range.

He also neglects the fact that many players don't serve missions.

Did you miss the word "often" in the sentence about missions? Saying players "often" serve missions seems to let you know that many don't serve.

I'd be curious to know what percentage our starters are RM's on a yearly basis on average - any ideas?
