How the WCC will effect recruiting?

So how will us joining the WCC effect the future recruiting for BYU Basketball? What will we see happen with Kingma and Harrison? If we don't get them, is this why? If we do get them, is this why? Kingma would get a lot more games closer to home.



What about next year? When will we know how this effects, or has not effect on Basketball recruiting.

all good questions; does ESPN trump the WCCs lousy overall RPI? Does Kingma like the fact he gets more games close to home? Is the WCC still considered a mid major after this (the answer is yes, I don't know what the perception will be)



Stay tuned; Hoops is the biggest wild-card in this entire process.



My feeling is that BYUTV and ESPN drive the bus and the exposure will be enough to convince those players if they're on the fence. If they're not on the fence, then nothing would have mattered now anyhow; it's not like we're getting the Big 12 invite tommorrow.

I think success in the NCAA tournament will affect recruiting more than anything else. Gonzaga itself is a perfect example. We get some good runs in and the players will want to play for us.



NCAA runs and successful pro basketball players...

Although we may not miss "fertile" b-ball recruiting hotspots like Reno, Boise and Wyoming, I think we will miss Texas.



Have to admit our recruiting footprint grew with TV exposure, but shrunk with scheduling.

I really don't see how this hurts our recruiting. If anything this should help due to the increased exposure via ESPN/Gonzaga.

BYU wont be playing TCU every year anymore, but i'm pretty sure they can find one of the Texas schools every year to schedule. So the team should have a footprint there.

We get UTEP in our house this year. The games on the west coast should be to our advantage. The RPI's last year were Gonzaga 35, St Mary 36 Portland 78 and the rest were bad. We should help their recruiting which then would help ours down the line.

Instead of just basing my opinion on pure conjecture I figured it'd be appropriate to take a look at some numbers. I know the grades on players at ESPN Recruiting are subject to human error, as are any player grades/rankings. Also some players massively under or overachieve throughout their basketball careers. This list does not account for class of 2011 recruits or transfer players. I compiled a list of the player grades from the MWC, the new additions, as well as the WCC. I was going to put these numbers in the form of a graph, but decided it wasn't worth the time. Also it's reasonable to believe that with the added visibility, and prestige that comes with landing a marquee program such as BYU; that the WCC will have a recruiting upswing.

Inside the evaluations (ESPN recruiting)

Five-star player: 97-100

Player demonstrates special talent. He should have an immediate impact at a high-major college and could develop into a high NBA draft pick.

Four-star player: 93-96

Player has the potential to significantly contribute as a freshman for most national programs. He could be a three- or four-year starter and have an opportunity for all-league honors.

Three-star player: 87-92

Player should be a terrific role player for three or four years at a high-major program or an have a significant impact as a freshman at a mid-major.

Two-star player: 80-86

Player should be a solid contributor and two- or three-year starter at a mid-major program.

One-star player: 70-79

Player could contribute at a mid-major school but should be a significant contributor as a freshman at a low-major program.
