Grading BYU's move for independence

I say a B. The MWC was a fine conference, dragged down by a horrible TV deal with the MTN, and made worse by Comcast and CBS Sports. They both killed the MWC in terms of exposure for an unwillingness to invest in that network and actually pay value for it to the league. I still blame Comcast in this mess the most. But having said that, BYU took the best option available, but it is not the ideal option. Ideal is PAC-10 or Big 12, which would be the "A". But it is a major improvement in terms of exposure, $$$, control over the BYU brand, which was neglected in the MWC and MTN deal.

Cumulative GPA is 3.6, for those wondering.

I have to go with an A. I believe the first presidency and the 12 were involved in voting for it so I have to believe that BYU becoming a failure for going independent is worth less exposure wise than a very sucessful BYU. So I have to give the nodd that some "Magic" may happen in the next few years for this (as one idiot TCU fan/writer put it) "special" team provided they do their part.



Please spare us the "not infallable" arguments. Yes I know Joseph Smith ran for president. I know about the lost/stolen manuscript, I know the histories of Kirtland, Missouri, and Navoo, I know I know. This is just a gut feeling and I am excited about the ride we are about to go on! So my advice to you is to sit back and enjoy because I think we are going to become something "special"! :crazy:



BTW - anyone hear anything about live 3-d sports broadcasts? I heard Hitachi will have full 3-d tv's (no glasses needed) before Christmas.

I think BYU independence by itself is a B to B+, but when you add the 8-year deal with ESPN, the ability to put non ESPN games on BYUtv, the rights to rebroadcast ESPN games on BYUtv the same day, and a 6 game deal with the Irish, a 4-game deal with Texas, and whoever jumps onboard to play BYU in Provo on ESPN, you get...

I approve.

I'm giving it a A. What happened was we had the report done and when we went to go print it off, the computer crashed and it didn't print. Thankfully, we'd done plenty of research and still had a few weeks before the paper was due so we could rewrite pretty easily because of the research. The final paper wasn't the one we tried to print earlier and our conclusion was completely different than the one we thought we were going to go with two weeks ago.

It is a home run.

A definite A!



We had one of two options:

We either stay in the MWC for next to nothing cash, and play an okay schedule WITH no exposure.

OR

We almost triple our income, and we "have options" who we play, while being in 55 million homes. All along with ESPN helping out along the way.

The grades a lot of people are giving now aren't as optimistic as they were.

espn deal is amazing.. . . AMAZING. however scheduling is the biggest problem and the risk of irrelevancy if we can't win are the biggest cons.



it was an upgrade from mwc for sure but not as good as pac12 or big12.

I stick with my previous grade.



Solid B. MWC was a C. BCS league is an A. We improved ourselves with Indy. But can still better improve ourselves.

B+.....until they scheduled the Donkies. NOw its a C. They are going to own us, unless they lose their coach and get a donkey of a replacement.
