Indy + BCS bowl = serious payout

I know that this is just a stepping off for a Big 12 invite, but in the meantime if BYU manages to snag a BCS bowl, they keep every penny.... how ya like them apples?

A full share of a BCS bowl is closer to $20 million.... right now I believe it's $17 million

I think Mars' number is closer to reality.

My understanding is that ND does NOT get the full BCS payout if they go to a BCS game. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

I think Notre Dame has a special arrangement where it has a reduced payout if it makes the BCS, but it also gets at least a 1 million payout every year regardless if they go or not.

ND has an agreement with the BCS that pays them something like $1.3 to 3 million every year whether they go or not. So they don't get the $17million if they go but they also don't get $0 if they don't get a BCS bid. But I think they may get $4million if they do go. I see numbers around a million but I think it slipped out once that they really get around $3m total if they don't get a bid.

Mars is right, if you are an auto qualifier you get bigger money, if you are an at-large bid such as Boise last year your payout is only around $6 mil.

The BCS bends to rules for ND. Don't expect them to bend them for you. I might be wrong, but I thought when a non-aq goes to a BCS bowl the money is also split between all the other non-aq conferences. Your pay-out would be great but I would guess it won't be close to what ND gets.

Also since BYU isn't considered a AQ school MTM may be right that could still be required to split with the other conferences, the biggest difference would be they would have to split the remaining the rest of the MWC

In 2005 this deal was made with Notre Dame:

"Notre Dame will now receive an automatic BCS bid if they place in the top 8 in the BCS poll. The Irish will be considered for a bid if they finish in the top 12. Notre Dame will also now received $4.5 million for playing in a BCS game and $1 million when they don't. This is a change from the previous arrangement in which the Irish received $14 million for a BCS appearance and no cash otherwise" (http://www.fanblogs.com/ncaa/005159.php).

There will need to be some sort of BYU Rule although the BCS is going to try to treat us more like Navy and Army, which have to finish in the top 2 in BCS rankings to make a BCS bowl while Notre Dame has to finish in the top 8. Still, sometimes the ACC and Big East champs are ranked worse than top 8...

Army has to finish in the top 2, not Navy (from what I've heard - I'm yet to see anything official and haven't been able to find it).

My understanding to this point was with no other agreement in place, that were BYU to be invited to a BCS bowl as it stands that we'd get $17 million; just like notre dame would have they not brokered a deal to get money every year that they dont' make it. The $14 million they got was what the max BCS payout used to be in the past before inflation, etc.

Regardless of the amount, my point is that there will be no wyomings or colorado states to take what we've earned.
