What will your football team play for now? You won't be playing for conference championships, national championships, or even BCS berths. In my estimation your team now plays on for "televangelism"

The reason for the move is simple. With the right schedule, and ESPN deal, BYU will generate up to five times more football revenue on their own than they would have in the MWC. Could be a good move. We'll see.

I'm pretty sure someone else lit the fire, we tried putting it out, and then Craig Thompson squirted lighter fluid on it (or was it hair spray?).

I guess this guy is hinting at AQ for the MWC. He's clueless. The MWC would never achieve BCS status because the bottom feeders are just plain awful. They were dragging us down. And does he really think that BYU never investigated if the MWC was on the brink of AQ status? They looked at it. Not going to happen.

BYU spent 10 years building it up and Hair Thompson took 2 weeks to tear it down. The MWC is totally and completely reactive. Boise was only invited after it was evident that Utah was leaving. Remember the meeting when they decided not to invite Boise?

Then the 10 million dollar invite to FSU and Nevada only solidified the fact that the MWC would never achieve AQ status. Guess what Hair, when you invite 2 teams that are already below your average conference ranking it does not improve that average conference ranking!

It was also a slap in the face to BYU that they were willing to spend 10 million dollars on FSU and Nevada but refuse to concede anything to BYU.

The bells on BYU campus tonight are ringing the sweet sounds of liberty and independence!!

Whereas in a quiet, rented out building in Denver Craig Thompson is pulling a wooden cart and yelling "Bring out yer dead!"

The only thing that could derail this is if Craig Thompson invites Gonzaga and St. Mary's to the MWC tomorrow.** Thompson scuttled BYU's last planned independence by inviting Fresno State and Nevada.

BYU doesn't believe they are Notre Dame, nor should they. BYU is 32-7 over the last three years; Notre Dame is 16-23.

ESPN - There's lots of potential

Every "writer" in the MWC footprint: THEY THINK THEY'RE NOTRE DAME!!! DELUSIONAL MORMONS!!!! *lynch themselves*

PS - I'm disappointed that all these sports journalists - you know, the people you'd think might have a clue what they're talking about - are ignorant of the facts enough to think the MWC was "on the brink" of being an AQ. It was a long stretch with Yewtah in the conference, and since they've left the numbers have been crunched numerous times in numerous places... AQ status was NOT happening. "But we've got TCU and BSU!!" is another stupid argument, because neither school brings in NEARLY enough in revenue/attendance/TV exposure to turn the BCS's head. The MWC was never on the "brink" of AQ-status, and it clearly isn't now.
