What if WCC hadn't extended an invite?

I was just reading over the WCC statement about BYU joining the conference and relishing in the announcement of our new found freedom when something struck me: When all of this hoopla was just starting, the WCC commish (I guess I'll have to learn his name now) basically said "we've extended an invitation to BYU if they can't find another home, haven't heard back from them and don't know if we will..." Basically that they had been proactive but thought it was a long, long shot for BYU to join. I'm sure glad that he did instead of sitting on his duff thinking that there was no chance that a big school like BYU would be interested in the WCC.

This just shows you that the WCC commish is a whole lot smarter than Hair. I guess there is a difference between private and public education!
