Schedule Problems??

Just streaming 1280 from California here and Jake Scott the little geek is going off about how no one will want to schedule BYU now. What a loser, he is seriously upset about BYU moving on. Guess what, every team from the piss poor MWC (Wyo, UNLV, SDSU, etc...) would play us in a heart beat because we sell their tickets better than they do and we've got the track record to proove it. Everything else, including strength of schedule will be taken care of in time and with the help of ESPN. They are acting like BYU has no value being outside of the BCS and that just isn't true, just ask Oregon State playing TCU and BSU, just ask VT opening up with BSU, give me a break!



Does anyone here have concerns about being able to schedule!??

I really don't think it will be an issue. We aren't going to get 12 Notre Dame and Texas calibre teams every year, but we don't now. Get a few high quality games every year, a few decent games and some pushovers and we will be just fine. You are right, despite what they may be saying now, teams like Wyoming will be happy to schedule BYU. I could aslo see an annual game with Notre Dame. I wouldn't even be against playing all three service academies every year, that would mean at least one trip to the east coast guaranteed every year.

hawaii

army

notre dame

navy

every year. then you add 6 more teams. thats only a few more then they have to do every year anyway which will be easier now with our espn contract.



we also have bsu home and homes for a few years already. we have three years with texas and oregon state next year. our schedule is going to be really good in 2011. better then it would have been in the mountain worst conference.



we will play utah, boise state, texas, and oregon state. probably add notre dame to that and that is a killer schedule already compared to what we are used to.

I don't think it will be as hard to find team in my opinion. My reason being that now that we're not part of the MWC, people wouldn't mind scheduling us. When these BCS team play a team like BYU from the "lowly" Mtn. West, it's a lose lose situation in most cases. Because if they come in a beat a team like byu, well they were supposed to, and if they lose to a team like BYU from the MWC then their team must suck, and while some people don't see it like this, there's many that do because it's obvious to me that they just don't have any common sense.

HELL, NO!

BYU's brand just kicked up several notches.

I do feel bad about what happened to The WAC, but it's not BYU's fault, and we'll get over it with this sweet new deal---YEAH, Baby, YEAH!

Scheduling Problems!?!? Hell NO! We just upgraded our scheduling by about an order of magnitude. Yesterday we HAD to play Wyoming, SDSU, UNM, UNLV, and CSU EVERY @#*@(! year. Now we only have to play them when we have trouble filling the schedule later in the year when other teams get locked up in their conference schedules.

Scheduling is obviously more difficult now, but only because all of our games are out of conference. But the reward is soooooo worth it! I simply cannot wait until we get Notre Dame, Clemson, Texas, and Navy in Provo in a single year (drooling on keyboard).

BYU's current 2011 football schedule presently includes three games:



Utah State



@ Texas



@ Oregon State



Utah (not scheduled but should occur)



BYU will be announcing other match-ups that will produce high visibility in the coming weeks and ESPN will be a key in these negotiations.

I expect a long deal with Hawaii. I also expect BYU to play 6 WAC teams in 2011, including USU and hawaii. The other 4 will probably be FSU, Nevada, SJSU and NMSU. That leaves 3 games, with ND being a good candidate and Navy as well. Leaves 1 more. AFA perhaps.

I would love an annual series with Notre Dame. I think this would do more for our "brand" than almost any other game we could schedule. This may be what Bronco was referring to when he said that we would be free to schedule more natural rivalries.



How much more natural can you get than having two big-time religion based programs playing each other every November. I envision a couple of barn burners happening, sparking a legit Mormon vs. Catholic rivalry. They could be our new last game of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Holmoe already has a 2011 football schedule in place at this moment. He had one filled up before the WAC deal fell through, and I bet it is almost identical to that one.



He definitely crosses his T's and dots his I's on everything he does, and a 2011 schedule is just one of those things he makes sure that is covered.



It will only get better as each year passes by!

Unfortunately, both Army and Navy have complete 2011 schedules already.

There's a chance that we could convince Army to move its game against FCS Fordham and Navy to move its game against FCS Delaware. But who knows?



Notre Dame, however, appears to have 2 or 3 openings in October and November that would start the BYU-Notre rivalry on the right foot.

I think BYU will be just fine in 2011.

That's the beginnings of a pretty decent schedule.



You throw in Utah State, Hawaii, and Fresno State or Nevada...and you're half done.



I also saw at http://www.fbschedules.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that the likes of Kansas State and Missouri of the Big XII and Louisville and Syracuse of the Big East have 2011 openings.



Further, if the MWC has only 8 teams in 2011 (because Fresno and Nevada don't come until 2012), there will be plenty of potential options to fill that extra game, if MWC teams will play us. I am confident that Air Force would. Holmoe should definitely go after a game against TCU in 2011.



So, even if we can't schedule Navy in 2011, I see a decent schedule (actually the potential to be quite strong).



Moving forward, the weakest part of our schedule will be Utah State and 2 or 3 games against other MWC or WAC teams. After that, Notre Dame, Navy, Pac 12, and Big XII matchups will define our schedule, with some exciting east coast games as well.

I think you guys will have no problem scheduling games. There will be some great teams you'll play, the only problem is, you have to win them. You're schedule will be exciting and much more difficult than it is now, but that's the problem, you can't win enough games to get into the BCS with a less intense schedule now, what makes you think your chances will be better with a tougher schedule?



When you play Oregon State, Texas, Notre Dame, and Boise State in the same year all of a sudden those games against Fresno State and Nevada look a little tougher because of the beating you've taken. Not to mention when you play teams consistently in a conference its not as easy to get caught off guard by them, but when you have a semi-variable schedule as an independent its a little easier for one of those lower-tier schools to sneak up on you.



Don't get me wrong, I'm a Boise State fan and would absolutely love to play a much tougher schedule, but what you guys are doing is the exact opposite of every major college football program. They are trying to schedule down because they realize the road to the BCS is more likely that way.



It's not enough to average 10 wins in today's environment, how's it going to be when you average 8 or 9?



If you were ND all you would need is 10 wins and your in because of their contract, now you are going to need 12-0 and its a BCS game for sure but 11-1 might not even cut it depending on the year. Not trying to be a downer just want to hear your opinions.

What if the MWC teams don't want to schedule? Then send an email to each team spaced by an hour and say you will schedule based on first come first served. Start with TCU then BSU then AF and down to the worst team. In their own self interest they will come before someone else bolts. That is how they have been acting.

Agreed! There needs to be a balance in the scheduling. Lately Bronco and Co. want to play the best competition out there, and there aren't many schools out there saying those same things. Only Oregon St. comes to mind. I like this type of mentality for the time being. If we could play Navy and Army, along with some other "easier" games, then the media or whatever can't call us Boise and say we play cream puffs.



Not only that, but it's a cycle. Other top notch LDS recruits take WAY MORE notice in BYU, and we recruit better than ever, which makes us even better than ever on the field.



This will take a couple years before we get clicking on all cylinders.

It's all about the $$$. Notre Dame still makes more than most other teams even when they lose. BYU could go 6-5 every year and still make more money than they were in the MWC under the reign of Hair Thompson. If BYU goes to a BCS game once every 12 years they will collect more money in the 1 BCS game than they would have with the entire mtn contract over the same 12 years....and that's not even counting all the loot the Cougs will get from ESPN during the regular season.



When you're independent you don't have to share the profits with peon SDSUs.



Independence isn't perfect --there will be lots of challenges. But it will be miles and miles better than what has become of the MWC.



In a perfect world the MWC would have stayed intact with BYU, BSU, TCU and yewtah......and fired the Hair and renegotiated a TV contract with ESPN and then become an AQ conference. Since that would never happen going Indy is the next best thing.
