It maybe be confirmed, but remember this is the second time he's "confirmed" it and it didn't work out last time. But I do believe this is more likely.

PK is now confirming it as well on 1320, although he is crediting Jay Drew for the main confirmation.

Out of the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses right... All I see is Jay Drew so far. I'm, getting excited though.

I am pretty sure I am not going to get excited for this until Wrubell says something. I don't want to be disappointed again. ESPN already pulled this on us once, got my hopes up for independence and then not. I'm waiting for something more official before I get to excited.

Not if the 2 or 3 are citing the same secondary source (tribune), love how everybody shoots their wad early on this stuff. It could be happening, but we also heard that it was "official" and "confirmed" several weeks ago, and heard that it was "official" and "confirmed" that BYU would stay in the MWC just last week and everyone reacted the same way.

Jay Drew says his source is in the WCC.



I honestly do not believe that Drew is very well connected with BYU. So far through this whole ordeal his sources have been everything but BYU.

Brigham Young University today announced it resigned from the Mountain West Conference, effective June 30, 2011.



Additionally, the University announced its football program will compete in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision as an independent beginning fall 2011. BYU has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference as a full member for men’s basketball and other sports, beginning the 2011-12 athletic season.



Further information will be provided at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1 at LaVell Edwards Stadium beginning at noon (MT). The press conference is available only to credentialed members of the media.



The University will have no further comment until the press conference Wednesday.



The press conference will be broadcast live on BYUtv. Viewing options for BYUtv include the basic tier on both Dish Network (channel 9304) and DirecTV (channel 374), and 500 cable systems nationwide. ESPN updated Andy Katz's storyand it had some great stuff.

"The WCC now has a major presence in Spokane, Portland, San Francisco-Oakland, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City."

"The three-team top of Gonzaga, BYU and Saint Mary's should challenge a number of conferences like the MWC, the A-10 and C-USA that are outside the power six for top-three elite teams."



I am really excited about this. When the WAC story broke a couple weeks ago I didn't like the idea, but now I am all in. Besides, Spokane is a 2 hour drive. Plus now that the WCC is at 9 they could be looking for expansion candidates to round it out. I have heard Seattle and Denver are both possibilities and both are big markets.

I love that ESPN is still reporting "Andy Katz is reporting that BYU will go independent." The press release has been out hours, but they are still trying to break the story."
