Bowl game

So if going independent is all about exposure and helping spread the mission of the church, could the LDS church create its own bowl game to go along with independence? With all the bowls out there it seems they allow almost anyone with a buck to create one. Could the church team up with like Nu Skin or APX or something. Create the Nuskin Mormon bowl. Have the church and nuskin pony up 2 million, then ticket sales of almost 4 million and you would have 8 million to split to the teams. Then the church and nuskin split advertising revenue or something? Then BYU is guaranteed a bowl and can invite someone pretty lucrative. Just a thought.

The other team that has a lot of LDS kids would be Utah.

Where would you play it? Don't say Salt Lake City or Provo, because I can't think of many big-name teams that would want to play football outdoors in late December / early January in those locations, especially if they have options like California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, etc., where it's a lot warmer.



And you know for a fact that you'll never get away with a "Mormon" bowl in California. ;)

I would disagree that no one would come and play in Provo. If the payout was 4 mil, or even 2 mil, people would come even if it is colder. Boise has a bowl and they have had Boston College, Miami, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Tulsa show up to play for a measly 750k payout plus the teams are forced to provide a sponsor and stay for so long. If the payout could be between 2-4 mil the bowl would be on par with the cotton, capital one and chick fil a as far as payout making it the most lucrative next to a bcs game.



haha but I do agree the Mormon nuskin bowl is a horrid name!

There are already too many stinky small bowl games, and who remembers the sponsors of those things anyway?

Its not a question of getting teams to come play in your bowl game. Offer the money and they will come. It is a question of will the fans come and buy tickets to your bowl game. I don't think many fans are willing to travel to Provo in December for a bowl game. Phoenix would be a good location.

I think a Bowl Game in Provo or Salt Lake City would attract a lot of fans because of the wonderful winter Skiing in Utah in December/January! It would actually be quite a fun bowl trip!

SLC was just turned down for a bowl game last year.
