BYUgrad03In light of all the reports swirling around about BYU and it's alleged "arrogance" / greed in wanting a larger piece of the pie, or just simply its own pie, I couldn't help but think about the similarities about what people are saying about us now, and what they were saying about Texas a couple of months back. I think there are many, many misconceptions about us and our intentions, even among BYU faithful. Something we should be used to as members of our Faith.
Well apparently after the dust has settled, there's a new take on what actually went down this past summer in the Big 12. This article from omaha.com creates a much different picture about the BIg 12 split-up than previously thought and reported.

There had been a lot of talk that Texas forced Nebraska and company out because of Texas' demand for unequal revenue distribution, which wasn't the case according to Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman.
Makes you wonder just how much we're reading is actually fact, versus fiction, and if those reporting the stories are just trying to cause more strife and contention than what there really is, in order to get a just few more hits to their webpages.
When the dust settles with BYU, I think everyone involved will see that what ever we do, it could possibly end up being a better situation for "everyone" involved, and that its ok to look out for yourself on occasion, as did Nebraska, Texas, and now us. (Consider that ALL of the schools from the old Big 12, have doubled their TV revenue over the course of all of this - something not forseen just weeks prior to the the BIg 12's split) I think there are a lot of misconceptions out there about our part (honesty/ dishonesty) in all of this, and at the end of the day, I think we'll still be proud of the values and principles that BYU, and our Faith, represent.
Anyway, take it for what is worth, that's just my opinion on all of this.

The paper's examination revealed many misconceptions about how and why the change unfolded. It also revealed a high drama featuring inside tips, surprises, powerful players, back-channel contacts, cloak-and-dagger meetings, tough bargaining and big stakes.

While some schools complained about the league's unequal distribution of revenue from network TV contracts, Nebraska wasn't among them. It joined Texas as a strong proponent of giving big-time football schools â those most appealing to the networks â a bigger slice of the pie.
Plus, Perlman said, the Big 12 had just recently completed important conversations about whether to form its own TV network for secondary sports programming, akin to the Big Ten's.
While many have blamed Texas and its plans to start its own Longhorn TV network as the reason a Big 12 network never got off the ground, Nebraska wasn't on board with a conference network, either. Nebraska's support was conditional on the high-profile schools taking a larger cut of that revenue, too â a condition some schools strongly opposed.... Perlman said NU was on track to have its network running by the fall of 2011 â actually ahead of Texas' timetable.
