AFA has openly expressed a desire to go indy even before the MWC lost Utah (and BYU). AFA and BYU have a tight bond. There are reports out of Houston BYU and AFA were the only two schools pushing for USU in the MWC if BYU wanted to stay. Seems to me AFA would jump ship and move it's mini sports to the WAC with BYU. AFA being indy would help BYU with November scheduling. I know AFA had already committed to play BYU each year when BYU does leave the MWC. What do you think the chances are ? Harmon and others covering BYU have stated something big is in the works, AFA leaving with the Cougs would be big in my mind.



Also, apparently, BYU thought about luring Gonzaga away. If BYU moves to the WAC and not WCC, I see BYU trying to take these teams with them.



WAC still needs two more football programs to survive, that's anyone's guess.

AFA has a history of gripes with being a MWC member. First is the lack of flexibility with their schedule. Previous BYU AD's said no to independence also. Previous P10 commish and P10 Chancellors said no way they'd ever expand. Hair Thompson said no more teams after Boise State. Fresno State and Nevada Presidents committed to the WAC days before defecting. People change their minds all the time. With pressure from Calhoun, BYU, and ESPN, the AFA AD might just change his mind too.
