Max shows well in limited time again

He outplayed Skelton, threw less passes for more yards and a higher completion percentage. The bad news is that Lienart had a good showing today...

Boooo ..... I want Leinart to go!! I think Max could do better than Matt Leinart w/ 4 or 5 games under his belt. Max has more of the "make it happen - killer instinct" than Leinart. Leinart's a pusscake!!!

I watched way to much of this game just to watch hall.

He comes.off the bench and makes a beauty of a throw right down the seam for about 25 yards. His incompletion came on a bootleg where he rolled out and no one was open so he threw it away.

I cart for the life of me remember anything about the other completion.

Anyway, he gets them down to the 12 yard line with 2 minutes left in the game AND THEY MAKE HIM KNEEL OUT THE CLOCK!!!

So freakin lame, its preseason... let the rookie finish his drive.

Max’s productivity on the field cannot be overlooked. If Arizona waives him, in order to put him on their practice squad, any and all NFL teams can claim him. They’re between a rock and a hard place with Max and Skelton, because I don’t think either quarterback will make it through waivers and even once they do, they can negotiate with any team to make their practice squad. There’s no question that Max has been more productive than Skelton in the preseason, AND that’s in spite of the fact that Skelton was drafted.

Arizona will not and cannot drop either Leinart or Anderson, simply because they have no clue how either will respond during the regular season. So it’s either keep 4 on the actual roster or try to get either Skelton or Hall on the practice squad. Skelton was a 5th round pick, Hall was undrafted. I think they’ll waive Hall and hope to pick him up after waivers… After his performances, I don’t think he’ll survive waivers.



NFL players receive a $1240 a week. Rookies receive $800 for their participation in the offseason conditioning program, minicamp, training camp (6 weeks) and preseason games. Their base salaries are then divided over the course of the regular season, which spans 17 weeks. (yes they get the same pay during their bye)

There are other perks, such as licensing checks, per diem (their per diem is no joke and a lot of young guys save it), etc.

(this is one reason why some veterans hate training camp; $1240 a week to risk injury...)



Practice squad players get a minimum of $80,000 over the 17 week season (it can be more if negotiated that way). The NFL minimum is $325,000 for 1st year players, and goes up roughly $75,000 for each year you’ve played in the NFL.



So, if Max makes the practice squad bare minimum, he’ll be pulling in at minimum $100,000 for 2010.



If he makes the NFL roster, he’ll average $19,000 a week in addition to the approximately $10,000 he’s made since being picked up by Arizona.



Max is going to get paid after this preseason; and I’m very happy for him. I too hate Utah and love Max Hall.

Same here, I never fully understood how it worked for rookies and practice squaders. This is great info.

So for every guy you see wearing a uniform in a regular season NFL game is making at least $19,000 bare minimum. Not bad, especially if you're on the roster for the bye week.



Now the funky thing is the playoffs. In the past, players only got paid a bonus for those games and not a percentage of their contract. So Tom Brady got paid the same as all his teammates for the playoffs. The average weekly play for a playoff week is $30,000, so if you're a rookie free agent and your team makes the playoffs, that's a real treat. For example Reno Mahe played in the NFL for 4 years, basically for the minimum from 2003 until 2007. He also was on the roster for 7 playoff games, including 1 super bowl. That would mean he got paid approximately $250,000 extra over his four year career. Since he played for basically the minimum (with the $75,000 escalators and camp/ etc pay) he basically made $340,000 the 1st season, $420,000 the next, $500,000 the next and nearly $600,000 the next; with whatever signing bonus he got each time he got a new contract. This is also why rookie free agents are valuable and why 4-5 year guys start to get too expensive than they're worth if they're not in the 2 deep. (and then they get cut) So you could estimate that Reno got paid about 1.8 million in his NFL career. (of course uncle sam gets a gigantic chunk) Dan Coats is probably close to the 2 million mark, provided he plays this entire season.



Itula Mili, Ryan Denney, and Chad Lewis likely all made over $5 million in their careers.



Chris Hoke and Brett Keisel have also cashed in in the post season but both have substantial regular season contracts now and the post season pay is just a bonus, but for a 1st year free agent, the playoffs can be worth a lot.



Ty Detmer played in the league 13 years, and likely made over $10 million in his career. More for Steve Young who probably made close to $40 million in his playing days, excluding endorsements and of course his broadcasting after his career.



I'm not sure, but I wouldnt' be surprised if John Tait isn't the high paid player in BYU history. He signed a couple really big contracts between the Chiefs and the Bears.



Then there's merchandising, autograph signings, appearances, etc. etc. etc.



It's good to make the team; even if you're the last man on the roster.

There's going to be a real emphasis on the next CBA for the players to want a percentage of their contract if they make it to the post season. The example in the article is that Tom Brady would go from $30,000 to $900,000 a game.... Talk about motivating veterans to get to the playoffs. (I'm sure the owners on good teams do not want this at all; they've gotten it good)

Looks like Arizona is finding a way to keep Skelton and Hall. They know Max won't survive waivers to make the practice squad. Don't look now but it looks like Max Hall is an NFLer and a coveted one.

This is awesome news for Max. I am so glad that Leinart has been a total flop thus far. Dude is a tool.

We all know iam a MAX Hall homer. Looks like cards looking to ship Matt opens up a door for MAX. Could Max hall be the cards number 2 at the start of the season. Dare i dream it.
