When BYU Leaves: Hate from MWC Fans to Increase or Decrease?

Not sure how much any of you are following it, but in case you missed it: The MWC hates us. This isn't new, but the recent developments with independence have only greatly fanned the flames.



Many MWC fans are trying to take a tough guy, "fine, we don't need 'em!" stance, and some are even delusional enough to suggest that when BYU leaves that all the remaining MWC programs will create some sort of secret pact in which they will agree - under threat of penalty - to never schedule BYU again in any sporting event.

BYU - after all - are a bunch of backstabbing, traitorous, immoral, hypocritical morons who tried to destroy their conference for delusions of grandeur.



My take on it? BYU has been and always will be big brother. The inferiority complex of teams like Wyoming, UNLV, SDSU, etc. is only going to fester even more when BYU is making millions more in revenue, having games regularly broadcasted on ESPN, and scheduling more and more series with prestigious programs like Texas. I predict that - even after BYU is long gone from the Moronic Whiners Conference - the BYU obsession will be stronger than ever.

What else would they have to talk about?

Can it get any worse? BYU will always be hated, whether they stay, leave, or never decide, they'll still be hated.

NOt that BYU is God's gift to mid-majors..........., but they will eventually bow in a year or two to the mighty dollar and outwardly justify playing BYU by saying they want to kick our trash on national TV.

I'm not sure where you are coming from either. I'm assuming you read accurately, but I'm not sure I get your point.

However, if my comment needs more explanation, It's a reference that in all this high intent of "increased exposure," the penchant for hubris does not escape even the humble of fans.

We might be 60% of the MWC success, but we are not all of it. We fans, can get pretty full of our sideline/arm-chair-selves and mistake school pride and our getting "slapped in the face" (or "stabbed in the back" which is in itself a stance by those stuck in a victim mentality) as the justification for going Indy; likewise we can confuse the higher intent of what BYU and the church are trying to accomplish with being "high and mighty." We may have been snookered by CT and the MTN a few years back; We may even think that we are "all that and a bag of chips" and mostly we are, but we will shortly see how "valuable" we are even to a more complete than at any previous time in the history of the MWC, merely and rediculously and needlessly, JUST a MID-MAJOR conference, less likely than ever before to get AQ status.

Will they hate us more than ever before? That would not be a surprise.

Will they come back to get some TV pie? No question. Once we get over ourselves (which presumably the administration would not have to bc they are driven by the higher intent) and they (MWC teams) get over their-selves, there will be games.

I think the point that is lost on you is that for a 9 team conference to have 1 team bring in 60% of the overall success and revenues is ridiculous. Name another conference with that disproportionate of a ratio? There isn't one.

Who cares!? Most fans out there who hate BYU hate Mormons. Any chance they get to further justify that hate simply encourages more of the same. Have you ever looked at the comments section in the Salt Lake Tribune for a BYU-related article? Wow. The bigotry knows no bounds, but what do y'all expect as members of the Church?

As members of the LDS church we will always be an easy target. The Church is doing their best to make us look more normal but all of the "...and I'm a mormon" ads wont satisfy the masses. BYU will always polarize football fans because they stand for something. With an honor code and all of the implied higher standards that are required to attend the university we will always be accused of being 'self righteous'.



As we continue to have success with our football program, people will either love us or hate us, and I suspect the latter for the remaining members of the MWC.

I'd say embrace it - even relish in it. Because most of the time, hatred is spawned from jealousy. Those who have a reason to hate do so because of jealousy. if they had no reason to be jealous, they wouldn't hate - they'd just be apathetic.

Amen! Jealousy is a strong emotion... 8)
