Jake Murphy Transfer

Just wondering if anyone has any more first hand knowledge about why Jake Murphy is transferring to Utah. The article I read doesn't give much juice. I have so much respect for his father Dale, as I am sure many of you do. As a missionary back in the late 80s in Pittsburgh, PA, I got to see the Braves play the pirates. There were a lot of missionaries who got to go see that game and Dale was signing autographs and taking pictures for everyone.



So, it's just a bummer for me I guess. Was Jake not quite talented enough for a sure path to getting play time? Did someone from BYU spit in his cheerios while out on his mission? Did he have a concussion with a red car and that's the only color he sees now?



Unlike many of you, I don't hate the Utes. Before you freak out... I went to 6 schools during my college days - Grossmont JC in San Diego and Ricks College before my mission. After my mission, I went to Weber State College (before it was a university) and actually made the honor roll (that's an accomplishment for me). Then I went to my dream school BYU, but only as a night student trying to get in full-fledged. After bombing academically after one semester, a counselor at BYU said I would never be able to get in as a business student and that I might consider UVCC (for you young folks, that's now UVU). So I went there and made the honor roll until it was time to move on for my BS at your nightmare school University of Utah . That's where my degree is from. But I swear my favorite team always was and is BYU. My wife graduated from BYU as well as most of my siblings.



I just couldn't get in and stay in. Yeah, I admit it. But I am smart enough to know that BYU is the greatest.



So with all of that personal data you probably don't care about, just know that I want the best and coolest players to go to the Y. So please pipe in if you know anything more about Jake Murphy.



Oops, just saw that someone else started a Jake Murphy post.

Basically, there are 2 major reasons that I am aware of:

1-Murphy came home very early from his mission and there wasn't a schollie ready for him until after the season

2-BYU didn't give his younger brother preferred walkon status (but the U did)



I think other things also had some influence:

-Utah to Pac-12

-our depth at TE and at OL

-something about him not being able to play baseball at BYU but that the U will let him

-lack of integrity

-enjoyment of associating with loser yewts

-desire to know what it feels like to have Max Hall hate him

-having the chance to catch as many as 10 passes a yr as a TE in Utah's system



*the last four are mostly TIC

Clearly, Jake is upset with how dishonest BYU has become that he's leaving the program before even arriving.



Oh well, one more freed up scholie.

I am glad Max Hall and Riley Nelson lacked integrity, and left their schools to come to BYU.



I really do not care. Best of luck to him. Big fan of his dad, great guy, great family. I take the Bronco approach, and if a kid does not want to be at BYU, see ya. Good luck.
